I've hear comedians complain about #MrsMaisel because she is constantly going on dramatic improvised rants instead of honing an actual set, so it is delightful hearing about how the very first time #CarisaHendrix did #LucyDarling she had one of those moments of brilliance where all her preparations went out the window and the character just took over.

I watched #TheAutomat #documentary yesterday and then pleasantly surprised to see one featured as a set in the final episode of #MrsMaisel that I watched last night. Perfect timing. I felt a deep connection with the setting choice that I might have missed otherwise.
Super interesting and highly recommended documentary. I saw the trailer last year when I was developing the syllabus for a course on the #sociology of #ThirdPlaces but I don't think it was released yet.

@daphnaorenm I just loved the show. I've been thinking of real-life places and people who were featured and/or mentioned during the show's run. It was delightful to learn that the Gaslight and Toots Shor were actual places. Of course, there was Lenny Bruce and Midge's sucession of husbands--Paul Simon, Robert Evans, and Quincy Jones. The last episode also mentions Susie's clients and Albert Grossman, who was a manager for folk and rock artists.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel is over! Season 5 was a return to form and I really enjoyed it. I'd be here for a spinoff following the adventures of the neurotic over-achieving daughter, who sets off on a road trip in 80s America during which she plays in a post-punk band, invents the internet and averts nuclear war a few times. Later she trains a large language model on recordings of her mother's comedy act. The resulting AI starts WW3.

Season 3, Episode 8: *A Jewish Girl Walks Into the Apollo* was a disappointment. Midge needlessly outs Shy Baldwin when there was comedy gold to be found with his food-throwing tantrums. This was at a time when kids were told to clean their plates because people were starving somewhere. (If you said they could have yours, you were told not to get smart.)And back then, even someone like Liberace wasn't outed & certainly not others like Rock Hudson or Sal Mineo.

Thinking about the series finale for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which we watched last night. it was, indeed, marvelous. Such a perfect (bitter-) sweet ending. Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein are so brilliant together, and the writing and the entire cast was amazing (and then there's the sets and the clothes!!). Anyway, i'm gonna miss this show. More people need to see it. #MrsMaisel #Farewell

I'm sad that I just watched the last episode of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".
While it had its faults, I truly enjoyed watching the show. The acting, writing, costumes, sets, scenery, and every little detail were done to perfection. You could see the care put into each and every scene. Plus some really great music choices.
It is also a show that's unapologetically Jewish and about New York City. I felt this connection where I was watching a story that my grandparents, parents, and their friends might have lived. My grandfather actually did own an apartment on the Upper West Side in the 50's. My parents used to tell stories about summers in the Catskills.
I was amazed by the pilot and I've, obviously, enjoyed the run. Here's to the writers getting what they need, and deserve, to get back to writing shows that can transport us to another time and feel the joy.
