Another book I really enjoyed: "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH", the book that Don Bluth's "Secret of NIMH" is based on.

If you follow me for some time, you know that Secret of NIMH is among my favorite cartoons. Much later, just last year maybe, I actually read the book it is based on, and I was actually really happy that I liked the book, as well.

I still need to read the sequels, though!

It's still really strange and a pity to me, that the protagonist never got an official first name, and thus I approve of the movie fans deciding to name her Elizabeth, based on her voice actress in the movie, Elizabeth Hartman. Miss Hartman deserves it for her great work, and Brisby deserves not to be known just for her late husband.

I'm still a bit grumpy they decided to release a new disk right when I finally got the 1982 version, but ah well, now I got both, or, well, all three, as the new one contains the 2015 version which is an extended 1982 one, and the new, even more extended one, I assume. 😁

Anyway! Secret of NIMH soundtracks!

The new one actually has a relatively thick booklet with screenshots and comments, so, that's really nice.

I'm watching the "Secret of NIMH" audio commentary by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman. It's really interesting to me to hear people who worked on movies tell stories about it, how stuff was realized or why specific decisions were made.

It also makes you several details you might miss in a normal viewing, like how shadows were used and why sometimes specific colors were used.

I like such stuff, I want more cartoon making-ofs. Non-cartoon, as well, but with animated stuff they also always have stories about the animation progress, that's cool!

Also, I have an excuse to post more Brisby screenshots! ♥️

No matter which scene, she's so beautiful and I love that chin fur. ♥️

It seems the second "Secret of NIMH" movie is universally disliked.
I so still kinda want to watch it, and if it's only to understand and share everyone's dislike for it. 😅

I'm really happy about this. Because it's a great piece, but also because it shows in such an awesome way how fanworks can keep a creation alive for so much longer and carry its legacy for possibly forever.

And that's why she's a character I love:
She's an icon of kindness and care, humble, well-mannered and friendly.

She deserves to be told how strong she is to care about her family mostly alone and how brave she is to go through all the dangers for them but also the rats she befriends.

I wanna pet those lovely cheeks, tell her all that and help her with her hard work! ♥️

So, a lovely mouse and mother.

And this also is the main reason why she's so awesome!

Her lovely look aside, she's a loving and caring mother that has so much on her hands while caring for her four children all alone, one of them ill through most of the story.

She's friendly and caring and in the events of the story she proves how she can overcome every fear with her dedication to her kindness and love for others, no matter how scary. Cats, humans, owls and more!

And now, for the fanboy-ing:

First off: Look at her movie design! She's so damn cute and beautiful!

I absolutely love her fluffy cheeks and the red cape looks so nice on her.
In the movie she also aquires a red and gold pendant which also fits the color of her fur very nicely.

And those lovely, cute whiskers and nose! Mice are just lovely, right?

And along the movie she features so many expressions full of care, worry and compassion.

First off some trivia for those not knowing her:

She doesn't have an official first name as she's always just called Mrs. Brisby / Frisby, or Mrs. Jonathan Brisby / Frisby after her late husband.

Thus, many fans adopted the name Elizabeth for her, after her voice actress in the movie, Elizabeth Hartman.

She's the widowed mother of four young children, busy to take care of them all, get enough food and tend one of her son's illness.
