Using the #InouyeSolarTelescope and computer simulations, researchers from #NationalSolarObservatory, #mpsgoettingen and #HighAltitudeObservatory reveal tiny vortices on the Sun’s surface that have never been seen before.
They are interpreted as signs of Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities.

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded Prof. Dr. Laurent Gizon of #mpsgoettingen and @unigoettingen an ERC Advanced Grant worth 2.5 million euros.
The project INSIDE aims to measure the Sun's magnetic field deep below the visible surface for the first time using solar inertial modes.
