I ran a couple stress tests that just involved dumping multiple instances of plugins in and seeing what happens: it runs like a champ even with 8+ virtual instruments (including multiple instances of #Pigments, which is notoriously CPU-intensive, and multiple instances of Ableton's Wavetable instrument, which always brought my old PC to its knees), plus effects.

This got me kinda excited and I decided to port my current project into #Ableton from the #MPCOne and finish it there.

@ndguardian yeah, for sure. In general, InMusic gets maybe a B- rating from me as an owner of an #MPCOne. Could be worse...could definitely be better, tho.

Real quick, here's a couple last things and I am done. I was thinking of what the #MVP of the process was and my first instinct was to say the #MicroFreak since that little synth is on nearly every track but then it occurred to me that the #MPCOne that the whole thing was created within was probably the real answer. ...

Point 2 was a reminder not to get distracted trying to figure out a bunch of whizbang shiny bullshit that may or may not actually help. On the #MPC platform (all mixed and #mastered inside the #MPCOne) there's less of this than on a proper DAW, but there's still a bunch of different stuff -- exciters, limiters, different EQs, etc -- that ostensibly *could* help...if you knew WTF it was.

See, when you plan your big recording project over the last three months of the year, you're going to run into things like holidays, and I did. My wife had planned a 4 day getaway for the Thanksgiving holiday and while it meant I'd have a lot of time, it also meant I would *not* have a stack of synthesizers and a modular rig and racks of gear to fuck with... luckily, the #MPCOne I use to #produce is very #portable.

Starting from the top: This is an #MPC album. I am committed to the DAWless thing -- though the MPCs are more like a DAW in a Box, really -- and wanted to reaffirm that commitment and focus my brain on the possibilities of the machine, so any time I wasn't sure I wanted to do something a non-MPC way, I did it the MPC Way. Ultimately I decided to mix and master entirely within my #MPCOne. The album you hear came out of the MPC that way.

Very messy but I love my current setup. Akai #MPCOne, #behringer TD-3, #Arturia #Microfreak and #Elektron #ModelCycles Plus a cheap mixer and guitar. Took quite a few years to make this setup but it's really inspiring and forces you to play the boxes like instruments. #music #musicproduction #Electronica #triphop
