  1. Re-introduction:

In terms of classic recording equipment clones that I've built, I have a bunch of SSL, API, and Neve mic preamps, and I'm developing my own API clone with a friend for the 500 Series. Here are some hashtags:

  2. Finished up 2 more Sound Skulptor MP573s (Neve 1073 clone). Calibrated them tonight. Ready for some rock and roll.

  3. Lots of my preamps were used on yesterday's session. Here's a few hard at work.

Here's some hashtags pointing to the build threads of various pieces of gear used in last night's session.

  4. It took a month but a replacement part for one of my Neve clone preamps got here from France. I was pretty sure it was lost, but there it was in my mailbox today.

  5. This meter board despite being small is a minor pain to build because of the way you have to line up the LEDs before you solder them. It looks cool and works well at the end of the day.

  6. Did some soldering on another MP573 preamp. Worked kinda late though, so I only soldered for about an hour.

  7. After the MP573 was calibrated I had to do final assembly and audio tests. It worky.

    Very pleased.

  8. I got the MP573 built up, and was doing some initial voltage tests and they weren't right... because I'm an idiot and I was testing the wrong test point. Duhhhhh....

  9. Got both transformer assemblies soldered and assembled for the MP573. This actually took a while. Kinda complicated, but a nice piece of design and engineering by the Sound Skulptor people.

  10. More progress on the MP573. It's starting to look like something.

  11. Did a little more soldering on the MP573. These will be slow builds only because in the documentation he has you kinda jumping all over the place.

  12. MP573 build is underway. Didn't get much done today, though, because a lot of the initial work was clerical, going over all the documentation and inventorying all the parts, etc...

  13. I mentioned the knobs in the MP573 kit in my last toot. I did some research, and the proper aluminum knobs are about $12.50 each, and the plastic ones are about $2.50 each. Then there's another simpler knob as well that would be less. But I bet at retail they would charge $30 more for the kit if they used the better knobs. I'm fine paying less and changing them if I want to.

  14. I gave the parts a serious looking over in the MP573 kit, and the one place they skimped was on the knobs. They used plastic Marconi knobs instead of the proper machined aluminum. Well I happen to have some of the proper knobs in stock so I'll use those. I'd rather they cheaped out on the knobs than the transformers.

  15. I have completed two channels of the ML12 build, and think Monday I will start the MP573 (Neve clone) build. This will be a slightly harder build because component density is higher, and everything is a tight fit.

Gonna take my time with that one.

I'll get back to the ML12 soon.
