You are right to be alarmed @Steltloper, the #FreeSoftware ecosystem is threatened as many of the people trusted to maintain it are willingly dismantling checks on quality, by allowing #AISlop in various degrees.

This is exacerbated by the corporate takeover of many not-for-profit entities set up to steward #SoftwareFreedom (e.g. #MozillaFoundation, #LinuxFoundation, …). Today those foundations push an agenda of handing our power to #LLM controlled by sociopathic billionaires.

Bei meinem ID4 logge ich mich nie ein, habe mich aber damals doch registrieren. Weiß nicht, ob oder wie er auch ohne fahren würden. Im Moment muss jedes mal auf "Onlinemodus" drücken, damit er seine SIM anschmeißt und irgendetwas digitales nutzbar ist.

Wissen die etwa, was sie da für einen wimmelnden sumpf voll lustigen getieres anlegen? Machen die das vorsätzlich? Komplexität ist bei softwäjhr das genaue gegenteil von sicherheit, fehlerfreiheit, zuverlässigkeit, verständlichkeit, pflegbarkeit und geschwindigkeit. Immer und überall. Die einzigen, die sich darüber freuen werden, sind kriminelle.

Der anker im ökosystem, modern und mit KI, voll vertrauenswürdig und neu. Oder in klarem deutsch gesagt: der feierfox ist tot.

Bitte! Bitte! Jemand muss jetzt ganz dringend der mozilla foundation den thunderbird aus den würgerhänden greifen, sonst ist der auch bald tot. Ich kann nicht.

Der webbrauser „feierfox“ ist gerettet!!1!

Die mozilla foundation flanscht da einfach noch ein bisschen von niemanden vermisste so genannte „künstliche intelligenz“ in form eines „KI-fensters“ mit einem drex-tschättbot dran [der link führt auf einen englischsprachigen text, auf linuxnjuhs gibts eine deutschsprachige meldung mit einer zusammenfassung], und schon läuft das wieder.

Mit dem gedanken, dass die verbliebenen paar prozent feierfox-nutzer überwiegend zu einer nutzergruppe gehören könnten, die so eine scheiße gerade nicht haben will und überwiegend völlig zufrieden damit ist, wenn so ein webbrauser dinge aus dem web anfordern und anzeigen kann. Nach möglichkeit, ohne dafür ein paar gigabyte speicherplatz zu belegen. Herr! Himmel! Hirn! Das waren noch tolle zeiten, als der feierfox auf eine diskette passte, auf damaliger, heute lächerlich anmutender hardwäjhr sehr flott war und einfach nur funkzjoniert hat. Das hat damals jeden überzeugt. Heute wissen die leute gar nicht mehr, was eine diskette ist. Da würde ja auch nix mehr draufpassen. Schon gar nicht ein vollwertiger webbrauser.

(Ich benutze grundsätzlich die ESR-versjon vom feierfox. Da muss ich mich nicht alle paar monate mit irgendeinem scheißgestrokel herumärgern.)

Ja, ich habe im zitat (durch [...] gekennzeichnet) „ein paar“ fehlermeldungen ausgelassen. In der liste von dpkg-query -L sind auch verzeichnisse enthalten, und damit kann wc nix anfangen. Mich hat nicht die fehlerfreiheit interessiert, sondern nur das schnelle ergebnis. Vermutlich ist die angezeigte zahl sogar noch etwas unterschätzt.

Etwas über ein viertel gibibyte allein für die ganzen installierten binärdateien (so einen popelkwatsch wie skripten, piktogramme oder konfigdateien habe ich nicht mitgezählt, das ist beim feierfox eh nur noch kleinkram)! Kein wunder, dass sich der moppelfox schon beim start anfühlt wie ein unterambizjonierter elefant im hochsprungwettbewerb. Der ganze scheiß muss erstmal vom datenträger in den speicher geschoben werden, und dann muss sich der rechner erstmal „davon erholen“. Der monströse haufen steckt schon voller beglückungsideen, die leider nur die mozilla foundation beglücken, aber nicht die nutzer. Und das schon seit viel zu vielen jahren. Fehler bleiben dafür einfach mal zwei jahrzehnte lang unbehandelt, weil es viel wichtiger ist, dass man irgendeine hippe und überflüssige krüppelscheiße in den brauser reinkackt. Und das ergebnis: von jahr zu jahr hat der moppelfox weniger nutzer. Inzwischen nutzen fast alle menschen — ja, sogar ich — brauser mit softwäjhr von evil guhgell. Ich brauche das RAM auf meinem rechner nämlich manchmal auch noch für andere sachen, wenn ich einen webbrauser offen habe, und nicht immer ist das einfach nur so ein (ebenfalls schon ziemlich moppeliger) editor wie der, in dem ich gerade diesen text schreibe.

Und jetzt hat die mozilla foundation in ihrer unendlichen weisheit begriffen, was endlich die wende bringen wird: wenn man noch ein „KI-fenster“ an den feierfox dranflanscht. Einmal ganz davon abgesehen, dass es für funkzjonserweiterungen aller art einen äddon-mechanismus im feierfox gäbe, mit dem man so etwas auch nachrüsten könnte, wenn man es umbedingt haben will. Aber das hieße ja, dass man die intelligenz des anwenders respektierte und deshalb den anwender dazu ermächtigt, selbst informierte entscheidungen zu treffen und ihn nicht am aua-aua-nasenring durch den kompjuter und durch das internetz zieht. Das würde so gar nicht zur mozilla foundation passen. Grüße auch an Mitchell Baker! Da hast dich gut gesundgestoßen in den jahren von 2018 bis 2024, Mitschie, du herrenfrau, du! Fahr zur hölle!

Die wissen bei der mozilla foundation schon sehr genau, wie man die zurzeit einzige verbreitetere alternative zu guhgells nicht besonders vertrauenswürdigem brauserkohd kaputtkriegt. Vermutlich werden sie sogar von guhgell dafür bezahlt… oder sind die einfach nur dumm wie ein trockener kuhfladen?

Ich habe die ganzen beglückungsideen in webbrausern nie verstanden. Mir reicht es immer, wenn so ein webbrauser einfach nur webseiten anzeigt.

Und nein, auch der von vielen so sehr empfohlene „brave“ beschränkt sich nicht einfach aufs wesentliche, sondern muss da noch „künstliche intellidingsda“ und einen kryptogeldbeutel mit reinfummeln. Genau, ich stecke meinen geldbeutel in den webbrauser, als sei das nicht so ziemlich die anfälligste softwäjhr, die man auf einem kompjuter haben kann! Das ist so eine saudumme idee, dass ich nicht weiß, wie man darauf kommen kann. Vermutlich, indem man regelmäßig mit seinem brauser tschättet. Aber wenn man den ganzen unnützen kwatsch abgeschaltet hat, ist der „brave“ eigentlich ganz brauchbar. Er ist sogar brauchbarer als ein feierfox. Warum es den unnützen kwatsch nicht einfach in form von äddons gibt, gern auch mit einfachen installazjonswegen, wenn das geschäftsmodell so etwas fördern will? Weil die entwickler vom „brave“ sich das mit den sinnlos in den kern verbauten beglückungsideen vom feierfox abgeschaut haben. Keine gute idee. Für niemanden.

@skolima WTF? I've been paying for Pocket Premium subscription since 2019, specifically so that Mozilla could have enough money to keep it running. This is a catastrophe and completely undermines what was left of my confidence im #MozillaFoundation.

#Omnivore was closest we ever got to a viable Pocket alternative, and that's got bought out of existence last October. #Wallabag is probably next best.

Given the most recent Firefox debacle, here's what I'm gonna do.

For the cost of a simple monthly wage in the range of US$ 7000 ~ 8500, I offer my services as BDFL of Mozilla for a time period of 3 years, extensible for a second term if I'm requested to.

As #BDFL I would ordain a path for Mozilla, and primarily for #Firefox , that eschews the eternal loser game of chasing Google's tail and complexity-based internet, and instead focus on or even develop an internet that's focused on the visitor and browser. Maybe taking something like Gopher or Gemini, iterating over either/both at least once to modernize them, and add first-class / native support. Restore RSS support too. But still prioritizing the values of the people who historically chose Firefox in the first place.

And, Gorhill permitting, uBlockOrigin would be integrated with the browser.

Hey, I'm offering a much cheaper service than whatever combination of exec salaries are being wasted over there at Moz.
