  1. Mejor película: Sinners

Más allá de la acción bien conseguida, me parece durísima y tiernísima al mismo tiempo. No molesta tampoco que todo el reparto esté de quitar el hipo

  2. Suddenly realizing from my own #Letterboxd that I first watched Wim Wenders’ film The American Friend (1977) LAST YEAR. How does it take up so much space in my head when I have only seen it once? How have I brought it up and talked about it so often when I’ve only known it existed for 16 months?!

If you like 1970s #movies, movies that surprise you, trickster tales or crime films or European trains or the color orange, you owe it to yourself to watch this.

  3. If any of you like WWII cinema I really recommend One of Our Aircraft is Missing which was released in 1942 and is by Powell and Pressberger.

Obviously it’s a propaganda piece but that doesn’t mean it’s not also a compelling story and a really great watch.

  5. Saw Drive-Away Dolls last night. It was super fun! Recommended for fans of sapphic comedy and very silly crime hijinks.

  6. Sick at home today (first cold in a looong time), finally saw the 2014 Ethan Hawke movie Predestination. Not for the squeamish or the easily "offended", but interesting - seems important for time-travel buffs. Good, understated performances from all three major actors. Avoid spoilers/previews if you can.

  7. #JuelTaylor’s #TheyClonedTyrone (Netflix 2023) is a #ScienceFiction movie good enough to call a #FutureClassic.
#JohnBoyega is grim & touching in the lead. #JamieFoxx is sharp & funny af. And #TeyonahParris’s Yo-Yo both fulfills & deconstructs the burden placed on Black women to save the world. All that, and #KieferSutherland is a wonderfully menacing villain!

  12. Continuing my catching up on queer movie history I should have watched years ago -

I absolutely adored Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
I think I've been avoiding a lot of these bc I assumed they'd be making fun and be a farce made for a straight audience, but Priscilla is just heart-wrenchingly sincere.

The actors treat their characters with respect, as does the story, and both Terence Stamp and Hugo Weaving are absolutely amazing.

It's funny, it's sad, it's dark, it's realistic, and just a masterpiece of queer cinema, guaranteed to make you wanna cry at the end.

I'm not usually one for road trip movies but this is one I'm gonna go back and watch again in the future

  13. Watched Phantom of the Paradise and am just floored.
Might be my fav phantom adaption, and I loved the directorial choices throughout the movie, it is such an interesting, uncomfortable shooting style - bringing us constantly too close or at a wrong angle.
I especially loved how it keeps framing us into one side of the mask, focusing on his wide-open eye.

Makes me wanna check out more of De Palma's lesser known works

  14. The Bat (1959, directed by Crane Wilbur) is a #Gothic #WhoDunnit that’s better (and less campy) than you might think.

#AgnesMoorehead plays a writer of murder mysteries & May well be the original #FuckAroundAndFindOut. Really, all the women are pretty cool in this.

And #VincentPrice as the town doctor is all charm and elegance, even (and especially) when discussing murder.

Included with Prime & MGM+ (but worth the rental).

  21. #MovieRec: #YouPeople on Netflix is very, very funny. And very honest, even painfully so, at times. Standing ovation for #JonahHill & #KenyaBarris & everyone who took risks to put this film together.

It reminded me of one of my childhood favorites: Andrew Bergman’s “The In-Laws” (1979).

The affluent Brentwood Jewish thing is a pretty foreign culture to me (a middle-class Cleveland Hts Jew with Workmen’s Circle Omas & Opas). But I connected enough to blush & laugh & wince at my people.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  22. Anyone has recs for a FUN horror movie? Like Ready Or Not, Deadstream etc. No heavy shit. We watched Smile and it was very depressing and quite triggering so we kinda want something lighter right now.

  30. So yeah, #MovieRec:
If a movie about a treasure hunt involving a badass female pirate captain, over-the-top stunts, lots of explosions and a pretty good soundtrack sound interesting, try Cutthroat Island (1995).
