So we’re at a movie theater today. This is there first movie experience since wifey and I’s wedding after party seeing Frozen 2 opening day, 2019-11-22.

We’re at a Warehouse Theater that is a converted theater that I spent plenty of time at in high school in the ‘90s. It’s weird being here and seeing the renovation!

Just gotta say, holy farts, has the movie going experience changed. Assigned seating, something I only experienced when I lived in Hungary in ’03-‘05, heated recliners, movable trays. Like damn. And tickets on Mother’s Day were still only $13/ticket, so not horrible.

Still, people are people so there’s that. But the physical movie going experience is vastly different than before The Event™️.

If you love the animated works of director Ralph Bakshi (American Pop, The Lord of The Rings) and the artworks of Frank Frazetta (Conan The Barbarian, Vampirella), then you should watch out for their memorable collaboration in ultra high-definition as the 1983 animated movie Fire and Ice will be released on 4K Blu-ray format on June 30, 2026, exclusively via MVDshop.

With a story co-written by Bakshi and Frazetta and the screenplay done by comic book legends Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas, Fire and Ice is the story of a young warrior named Larn who wants revenge against the evil queen Juliana and her son Nekron. Fire and Ice 4K Blu-ray will be in a Steelbook form containing the 4K Blu-ray disc and the Blu-ray disc. For the 4K enthusiasts reading this, the classic animated film has been restored in 4K and the visuals are rendered in native 4K.

I personally am interested in replaying Fire and Ice in 4K Blu-ray format. I saw Fire and Ice a few times a very long time ago on a rented video tape and on cable TV (randomly viewed it) but I never actually got to watch it entirely. Fire and Ice 4K Blu-ray is on my list of 4K Blu-ray releases of this year. I can only wonder when it would get offered via Amazon.

As for Ralph Bakshi, I admire his works on rotoscoped animation and how he visualized his concepts. His work on The Lord of the Rings animated film of 1978 was ambitious and he made the most out of their limited resources. I own a Blu-ray copy of his animated film American Pop and watching rotoscoped animated scenes and characters move in high-definition is enjoyable.

Fire and Ice, to the best of my memory, has a fantasy concept that reminds me somewhat of Conan The Barbarian (and the sword-and-sandals fantasy elements) and it also the traditional concept of the heroic man who risks his life to save an important woman from the forces of evil. To replay Fire and Ice in 4K is something I desire as a 4K Blu-ray collector and enthusiast of traditional animation.

Not to be outdone is the vocal cast that has William Ostrander, Maggie Roswell, Steve Sandor, Stephen Mendel and Susan Tyrell. The performances in Fire and Ice were strong.

The movie theater that closed in my "city" last year (May 2025) has been working for the past few months to re-open with new ownership.

Five hours ago they just posted a notice on Facebook "Stay tuned for movie times very soon!"

They used to have the best prices around before they closed. I hope they're still able to offer some deals without running themselves out of business again.

I’m running behind this morning. I actually have to leave the house twice today — once to take Charlie to his annual appointment and once to swing by the pharmacy for myself. That alone will probably add ten miles to my odometer. I’ve said it before: I don’t get out much.

I skipped the SOTU last night because I already knew the gist of it. Instead, I opted for something far more cultured and refined: Anaconda — the 2025 version with Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Steve Zahn, and Thandiwe Newton. Naturally, it features a very large snake. It’s mostly a comedy, not quite slapstick but definitely leaning in that direction. My favorite moment was Jack Black sprinting through the jungle with a “dead” wild pig strapped to his back while a giant snake chased him. The backstory makes the scene even funnier, but you’ll have to watch it yourself to get the full effect. And yes, the pig was a prop — no animals were harmed.

Lately I’ve been wondering how the movie theater business is holding up. Between the COVID shutdowns and the rise of streaming, you’d think it would be struggling. But who knows — just because we haven’t gone doesn’t mean others aren’t heading out simply for the sake of getting out. Our local theater sells monthly subscriptions that let you watch any movie you want, and they still sell individual tickets too. I do wonder how they manage seating these days. Maybe it’s just not an issue anymore. Perhaps the era of sold‑out theaters has quietly passed.

There is very little information I can get about this cinema. This cinema was popular back then and if I'm not mistaken this cinema closed in the late 1990s, so it's probably been almost 30 years as of the time I posted this.
