  1. CW: SOMA, small vent about presence of mind during thought-provoking video games and failing to portray them with the respect they deserve.

Man, this is the second time I've watched a playthrough or analysis of a game we've played on stream where I've come away from my own playthrough feeling like I somehow missed important messages.

Granted, you can chalk it up to the split attention that comes with streaming, but when I had this happen after playing #Mouthwashing it was the first time I ever experienced anything around that game, of course it's going to be hard to absorb/digest the themes/messages of that game when you have a divided attention.

However, when I played #SOMA back in 2022 I had already watched Markiplier's LP before I had decided to revisit the game for myself. I knew there was a philospohical & existential thread woven throughout the game, and while that entire discussion is still very much accurate to my playthrough, one thing I feel I completely missed the mark on is the antagonistic nature that Catherine presents as and how she treats her research and the people of Pathos-II.

There's a non-zero part of me that almost feels like my take on my experience in SOMA is not how I would prefer to present the game, although the rest of me still wants it to exist, even if I may not be happy with it personally.

If you're interested in a playthrough that handles it more as a game with some light philosophical discussions & posits, feel free to check out my playthrough on either of my channels. However, if you're interested in a much more meaningful, philosophical discussion on the nature of consciousness, sense of self, and the value of humanitarianism in scientific endeavors such as this, I suggest giving the playthrough from Dr. Mick a watch. He is able to so eloquently explain what I failed to portray with so much more tact & respect, it's hardly a comparison.

  6. #Mouthwashing e finito. Buen viajecito.

  19. Mouthwashing

As a walking sim, it was "ok". Thing is, I certainly lack media literacy to fully appreciate it, as I usually just understand games at surface level. I read a few posts about it after finishing it, and I was like "oooooh", like there are 4 layers deep to each chapter and each action of each character. So it's probably good if you take your time to analyze and understand all the metaphors.

  33. Happy Halloween folx!

Today we're doin' something special for the sake of the spookytimes: My partner is in the pilot seat today and I've chosen a game for him.

He's going to play the incredible #horror game #Mouthwashing.

For those unfamiliar, this game carries pretty much every content warning in the book.. so manage your interaction appropriately.

For those familiar, keep quiet in chat.

    For all, buckle up.

  34. CW: Mouthwashing, small vent about socio-normatives and the regret of fitting into my demographic square hole

    youtu.be/HuD-ypEKP4o

So PushingUpRoses just published an amazing analysis video on #Mouthwashing and I have to say, I cannot believe I missed the entire central plot of this game. I can probably chalk it up to not being fully invested/immersed in the story when I'm also trying to portray characters, play the game, and generally be entertaining as a streamer. However, I also know that as someone whose demographic places them squarely in the camp of, as she puts it, "The Boys Club", I can't help but feel regretful or even a bit ashamed that (however expectedly) I too missed this glaringly obvious aspect of the whole game.

This is in no way a knock at her perspective or analysis; in a way, she's right. Whether it was subconscious or not, I did literally miss the plot about Anya and Jimmy, hell the entire part of Jimmy's character being a piece of shit and not taking accountability for his own actions and mishandling of the entire journey the rest of them found themselves on. I wish I had noticed this aspect of the game, and I hope that, when we get around to publishing the VODs for my playthrough, it doesn't impress the wrong idea about the person holding the camera.

I'll speak more about this when the videos actually publish, but I want to make this absolutely clear before we even approach them. Had I been able to put the pieces of this blatantly obvious puzzle together I would have without any uncertainty brought it up as an issue against Jimmy. It's my biggest regret with my playthrough, now knowing how glaringly obvious it was and what my voice and perspective during the playthrough gives off as a content creator.

I take the way I present myself to others completely seriously and hope that I can break down perceived expectations of what kind of person I am to others.

Anyways, sorry, just had to get this off my chest, a bit heavy for #Halloween I know.
