  1. Dove and Stone

In the mornings, when I open the back door to let my dog Charlie out, a dozen or more mourning doves (Zenaida macroura) — along with various other birds — scatter from the ground and lift into the trees. They’re always out there ahead of me, quietly foraging until the door swings open and Charlie trots into their world.

This particular dove was poking through the grass near a white stone, pausing just long enough for me to catch the moment.

If you're a fan of stunning dove imagery, be sure to explore my photo gallery for a collection of beautiful snapshots that capture their elegance and charm.

  6. Over-the-Shoulder Dove

Mourning doves (Zenaida macroura) stay around all year — at least some of them do. They visit my backyard regularly, but I think this particular dove was one I noticed perched in a tree during a walk some time ago.

  26. Nest story

I wonder if there is a ranking of bird engineering talents. The design wasn't that bad, the location not quite. Poor mourning dove, who was in fact sheltered from the water above its head, but who had not foreseen that there would be water underneath.

My gutter was overflowing and I was wondering why. I was able to rescue the nest and reinstall it in the same spot, but above the water. Hoping that the dove will come back now 🤞

  31. #4Things Firstly, a sweet #MourningDove was singing on my neighbor's lawn this evening and I blessed it. Secondly, though I knew all day that it was #MemorialDay, as I walked up my mountain of a driveway after putting the garbage at the curb I was still taken by surprise when I got my first hint of the scent of #JapaneseHoneysuckle on the night air that is hardly moving. Thirdly I need St. Anthony to visit because i lost something in my house and really want to find it. And fourth and finally, here come the infernal fireworks from the pit of hell. No one needed to know any of that. Does that mean I'm over sharing? 😁😁
