  1. The Lemurians of Mount Shasta: A Visit to the Hidden Country

California's mystic volcano has tenants no census has ever counted. An inquiry into where they live, how they live, why they live, and what happened when I went up to ask. Drive north out of Redding on Interstate 5 and the land begins rehearsing for something. The pines close ranks, the grade climbs, and then the forest opens and the mountain is simply there: fourteen thousand feet of snow and andesite standing alone above the valley floor, keeping no company on that horizon, rising nearly ten thousand feet above everything around it. Joaquin Miller saw it in the 1850s and gave it the sentence it has never escaped: "Lonely as God, and white as a winter moon." A mountain that looks like that collects tenants, and for a hundred years the most famous tenants of Mount Shasta have been a hidden people. […]

  2. #Siskiyou County could retire large water well on #MountShasta instead of approving #AIDataCenter

The inland #NorthernCalifornia site at the edge of town was former Coca Cola bottling plant, sold then expanded to produce flavored drinks, that market shrinking so now sold again.

  5. Shasta Storm

Mt Shasta is one of many volcanic peaks in California and is at the southern end of the Cascade Range. At 14, 179 feet it is also the second highest peak in the cascade range.
Captured on a drive into California from Southern Oregan. The sky was clear for hundreds of miles except for this large cloud that seemed to get hung up on the peak of the mountain.

  9. "The physical summit was beautiful, challenging, and transformative," writes Laura Dobbs Gillan. "But the real summit—the one that truly matters—is the collective effort to prevent this disease from stealing more mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends from the people who love them." alamedapost.com/op-ed/alameda-

  10. Chonk and Dash Dinosaur stop to admire Mt. Shasta in northern California. Sadly, moments after this was taken, Dash fell to his... Ouch. He was fine, but he'd fallen over the fence they were perched on and into the airport beyond. Fortunately I was able to get a windshield squeegee from my car and effect a rescue. Nothing hurt except Dash's ego. The journey continues...
