It starts with looking at a cyclist with all the bullshit "war on motorists" running through their head, and ends with having their passenger lean out of a window to shove a cyclist off their bike while filming it for social media. It starts with stickers and ends with wire strung at neck height along mountain bike trails.
So no. Its not "just a joke." It's never "just a joke." 6/6

Got myself into an argument about relative risk posed to pedestrians by cyclists and cars the other day. Not proud of myself. Arguing on the internet is something I should have grown out of by now. But I can't help but feel that cyclists are almost as unfairly demonised as spiders (except Australia), and a lot of the reaction to them is a *perception* that they're dangerous to pedestrians fuelled by outrage manufacturing, rather than genuine facts and statistics. #BikeTooter #Motornormativity 1/

Absolutely agree that sentencing for driving offences needs a complete overhaul, starting with getting rid of the "extreme hardship" loophole and the subjective competency standard. If being allowed to drive is that important to you, don't drive like a twat. It's not hard. Also, operating a couple of tonnes of heavy machinery at speed in shared public space shouldn't be treated as casually as making dinner.

... Dabei fuhr ein Motorradfahrer im Alter von 19 Jahren aus Oedeme kommend in Fahrtrichtung Kirchgellersen. Während der 19-Jährige einen am rechten Fahrbahnrand abgestellten PKW überholte, fuhr dieser an.
... und wer immer das Auto lenkte, der/die Täter:in genießt hier die übliche Anonymität der Verantwortungsdiffusion.

Something I'm noticing more and more with the ever-increasing size of modern cars is how long it takes to park. Plenty of spaces in the hospital car park this morning, but a long queue to get in because it takes people SO LONG to squeeze their wannabe-humvees into the parking spaces. I don't think it's just down to the size, either. I think more and more people are relying on the car tech to get them in rather than just, I dunno, parking like a competent driver.

Drivers were caught doing more than 90mph in this 30 zone, with an average of more than 40. There should have been mass protest about this lawlessness, if people's commitment to traffic law and order as evidenced by comments on cyclists running red lights is anything to go by. But no.

I am SO FUCKING TIRED of the excuses made for aggressive, even violent drivers, just because their victim is a cyclist and their weapon of choice is a motor vehicle.
If you got into an argument with someone, then went after them with a baseball bat, no one would say you were a "decent individual."

So wirkt gefährliche Infrastruktur: Der Fahrrad-Schutzstreifen wurde in den Türbereich von geparkten Fahrzeugen hinein markiert, so dass sich unerfahrene Radfahrende dort selbst in Lebensgefahr bringen.
Die verbleibende Fahrbahn ist dann aber immer noch zu schmal, um mit dem PKW legal mit 1,5m Seitenabstand zu überholen. Wird aber trotzdem dauernd gemacht.
Formal sind jedoch leider alle mir bekannten Regeln für das Anbringen von Verkehrszeichen eingehalten worden. Der Bereich des Schutzstreifens müsste aber vielmehr vergleichbar wie eine Sperrfläche markiert werden. Dann fahren die unerfahrenen Radfahrenden mit ausreichend Abstand zu den geparkten Fahrzeugen und mit dem Auto ist klar kein Überholen möglich.

Ich lerne selbst auch immer noch dazu - da ist ja nichts Schlimmes dran.
Ganz allgemein bestehen aber riesige Bildungslücken rund um die Grundlagen der Regeln zum Radverkehr.
Konkret: Manche korrekte Fahrweise mit dem Fahrrad fühlt sich nur deshalb falsch an, weil regelwidrige oder selbstgefährdende Fahrweisen so regelmäßig von Menschen mit Auto oder LKW erwartet und / oder aufgezwungen werden, dass es viele Radfahrende gar nicht mehr als falsch wahrnehmen.

In 2024 there was one fatality after a pedestrian / bike collision - in the entire UK. Meanwhile 265 pedestrians died after being hit by a car. So why was there huge focus on bikes using this one #Edinburgh street, but little about the vehicles using it? #motornormativity @[email protected]?

We need to do something about actively shitty and merely shoddy drivers to get the accident rates down. Not sure these proposals by the UK gov will cut the mustard.

Drivers need to stop thinking of their cars as a mobile living space, and something to which they are entitled. Bicycles are not toys. Cyclists, particularly in cities, are usually not riding a bike as a leisure activity. They'll probably get where they are going faster than the drivers will. Driving a car is not "being grown up" -- as I've seen on a comment thread -- particularly when driving like an arsehole.

Cases involving dangerous driving should have mandatory jury directions from a driving instructor or IAM qualified expert witness. The standard should be "Would this have failed the test?" not, "Does this seem careless to you?"

It's not about eyesight or drink driving limits. People already ignore those. It's about realising that drivers are held to remarkably poor standards given that they are operating heavy machinery at speed in a public place.
E.g.:

"Older drivers could face mandatory eye tests and the drink-drive limit could be cut as the government tries to reduce the number of road deaths."
“In no other circumstance would we accept 1,600 people dying, with thousands more seriously injured, costing the NHS more than £2bn a year.”
Maybe they could put at least as much effort into this as they have into changing the laws for cyclists.

I thought they'd abandoned plans to dual the A96, but now they're saying it's still the "favoured option."
If people stopped driving like twats and started behaving like they're operating 2 tonnes (or more) of heavy machinery in shared public space, we wouldn't need to "upgrade" anything. You only need to look at the comments thread on any post where a cyclist has shown drivers behaving like twunts to understand the real problem.

While it is an amazingly well done movie for the time, especially the stylized format and the main actress' performance, the main thing I take away from "Run Lala Run" now is how incredibly bad the motor car drivers are. The main gun isn't even close to being the most dangerous thing comparatively.

Oh jeh. Baustelle Kreuzung Landgraf-Georg-Straße/Teichhausstr/Pützerstraße #Darmstadt ist fahrradtechnisch auch mal wieder ein Totalausfall. Verringerung von zwei MIV-Geradeaus-Spuren auf eine Geradeausspur mit Baken auf der Spur. Radfahrer:innen dürfen sich entweder in Autoreihen mit überfordert-genervten Fahrer:innen einfädeln oder regelwidrig durch die Baken der gesperrten Spur fädeln. Gegenüber dann gesperrter Radstreifen, also erzwungenermaßen Einfädeln in o.g. Autos.
Was die Baustelle aber gut zeigt:
- Autys sind absolut nicht in der Lage, das Reißverschlusssystem anzuwenden und sorgen für Rückstau über zwei zurückliegende Kreuzungen.
- Auf genannten Kreuzungen sind sie natürlich nicht in der Lage den Kreuzungsbereich freizuhalten.
- Außer zwischen 8h30 und 9h00 braucht die zweite*, gesperrte MIV-Spur keine Sau. Das könnte eine PBL sein, wenn wir den Brummbrummverkehr um vielleicht 25% am Peak reduzieren.
*) An dieser Stelle hat die Kreuzung sechs (!) MIV-Spuren (2 nach Süden, 4 nach Norden, davon 1x Linksabbieger und 1x Rechtsabbieger).

CN Herbstliche Fahrradleuchtdekoposts
Ich fahre jeden morgen etwa 2,4 km durch Darmstadt. Heute habe ich mal auf Beleuchtung an Pkw geachtet. Da es bereits hell war, hatten viele Ihre Lichter bereits aus.
Trotzdem sah ich auf dieser relativ kurzen Strecke zwei Pkw mit je einem defekten Frontscheinwerfer und zwei Pkw, deren Fahrer offenkundig nicht wussten, was der Unterschied zwischen Nebel- und Abblendlicht ist. Dementsprechend hatten sie nur ihre Nebelleuchten an.Und ja, das mögen "nur vier" aus schätzungsweise hundert Pkw gewesen sein. Aber es sind dann halt genau die, die Leute umnieten und dann sagen "Och, den konnte *man* so schlecht sehen!". Nee: Den konntest *du* schlecht sehen, weil du nicht weißt, wie *du* deine Karre sicher fährst.
Vorgestern Abend im Dunkeln kam mir auf dem Feldweg (Zeichen 250, der hatte da gar nix zu suchen) ein Pkw mit Fernlicht entgegen. Das hat er nicht für den vor mir fahrenden Radfahrer ausgemacht, sondern erst, als ich meinen Arm vor's Gesicht hob (ich konnte nicht mal mehr den von meiner Lampe beleuchteten Boden vor mir sehen).
Mit solchen Erlebnissen - re-gel-mä-ßig - kotzen mich diese "Obacht Radfahrer, wenn ihr nicht totgefahren werden wollt, zieht euch an wie Weihnachtsbäume"-Nachrichten jeden fucking Herbst dreifach an.
