  1. A quotation from Bill Watterson

CALVIN: Hobbes, do you think our morality is defined by our actions, or by what’s in our hearts?
HOBBES: I think our actions show what’s in our hearts.
CALVIN: (after consideration) I resent that!

Bill Watterson (b. 1958) American cartoonist
    Calvin and Hobbes (1990-10-18)

  2. The eloquent quote from the New York Times in the quoted skeet below aligns closely with my piece from last year on the whole question of the #motives of #massshooters: often the search for a "motive" will lead us to something most of us won't comprehend. doncurren.blogspot.com/2024/07/the-...

  3. The same applies to #lonegunmen #assassins. In fact, if someone is driven to assassinate someone by their belief systems, it seems highly probable that their thinking is so seriously disordered their #motives won’t seem rational to the rest of us.

  4. A quotation from Mignon McLaughlin

We can never understand other people’s motives, nor their furniture. - Mignon McLaughlin

  5. Good morning. 🐟🎣☕

    4 August 2025

I recall my first fishing experiences when I was a child, sitting on the bank with a pole a like and a bobber. It was fun and exciting putting a worm on a hook and pulling out a fish, usually a little blue gill. We'd go home with a batch to be fried up later. Cleaning them was a chore. Now when I think about it, I feel a tinge of guilt. I'd pretty much killed two living creatures just for fun each time I cast a line. Sure, we usually ate the fish, but the point is, I didn't go fishing because we needed food, I did it for fun. Motives matter I think, don't you?

"And now my friend we meet again We shall see which one will bend Under the strain of death's golden eyes Which one of us shall win the prize To live and which one will die 'Tis I, my friend, yes 'tis I Shall kill to live again and again To clutch the throat of sweet revenge For life is here only for the taking" —Country Joe and the Fish

  6. "The court’s decision further states that in distinguishing #official from #unofficial conduct, courts may not inquire into a president’s #motives. If a president should choose to declare a political rival guilty of #treason, deploy a paramilitary group to assassinate that rival & direct the attorney general to sign a document saying that said rival’s death is necessary for the “securing of liberty,” these would be official acts for which the president is immune"

  7. I got a mail from a #REPUTED #NGO to sign a petition against #Indian #Government cutting a forest in #Bhopal
I clicked the mail to sign. My protection system #blocked their #site because they had ingested #Amazon #Tracker in their site
I think, when going against the govt, #anonymity is crucial. If you track the users while allowing #BigTech to do the same as well. I don't #TRUST YOUR #MOTIVES
For now, I sent them a msg regarding this issues. Depending on their response, I will name them openly.

  8. #Biden's office put out a statement a few months ago saying there would be no #pardon for #HunterBiden. Nobody is talking about pardons... except #rightwing operatives and sensationalist #media. And no matter how many times it's shot down, they just keep bringing it up. These individuals and entities have an interest in fabricating controversy, and keeping the non-issue front and center in the minds of Americans. When you see shit like this, always question the #motives.

  9. "One can fight evil but against stupidity one is helpless. … The ironic, the tragic thing is that we often behave in ignoble fashion from what we consider the highest motives.”

  10. For our reason for confidence is this: The testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God—not by human wisdom but by the grace of God—we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you. 2 Corinthians 1.12 NET.

Those who live in Christ are able to live as he did, with integrity, detachment toward material things, and the motive to please God and serve others. When crises and relationship problems arise, these stand one in good stead.
