I did not travel a lot during recent years but I’ll soon travel to UK via train and I’m afraid my #motionsickness might kick in... Any magic advice?

@Her_Doing Have you got a reference on that, please? #interesting #motionsickness

Why are #MotionBlur, #FilmGrain, #ChromaticAberration, #DepthOfField, #Bloom, #Vignette, #LensFlare, #VolumetricFog and heavy #TAA enabled by default? They may look #Cinematic, but in real #Gameplay they are awful. 🫣
They blur the image, reduce #Clarity and #Readability, hide details, cost reaction time — and waste a lot of #FPS on effects that actively
make the image worse. For me, some of them even cause #MotionSickness. I disable all of this #Immediately. They directly hurt #Performance and #Playability.I buy a 4K monitor and powerful hardware to get max. sharpness and textures, only to end up with blur and lower performance that completely negate it? 🤨
I want #VisualClarity, #Precision, #Control.

A new stimulating device is available that aims to reduce motion sickness in VR and other problems related to the vestibular organ. They are currently looking for industry partners, but it's available for research, too. https://nbi.fr/

A new study says that music can alleviate motion sickness — and "joyful" music is the best genre to mitigate symptoms. Here's @FrommersMag's explainer. Find the full results of the study, published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, at the second link (the scientists behind it say more research is needed).

Breakthrough Discovery: Sound Waves Could Cure Motion Sickness
Researchers at Nagoya University found that a 100 Hz sound frequency—nicknamed "sound spice"—can dramatically reduce motion sickness symptoms like nausea and dizziness. This safe, non-invasive method stimulates the inner ear's vestibular system, improving balance and potentially offering relief for motion sickness in cars, planes, and boats.
A simple, promising solution for travelers everywhere. #MotionSickness #ScienceBreakthrough #InnerEarTechhttps://scitechdaily.com/scientists-discover-unique-100-hz-sound-that-alleviates-motion-sickness/

@wyatt I can think of one kind of 2D game that benefits from a widescreen patch. Some platformers use heavy "dual forward focus" in the camera, showing more of the map on the side of the screen that the player is facing to give the player more time to react to hazards. Think Yoshi's Island for SNES, the Sonic games for Game Gear, or Full Quiet for NES. A widescreen patch reduces camera movement when turning around, which could improve accessibility for players with motion sickness.

#PlayStation Move was the worst possible way to implement motion controls. Oh yeah, let's have a bright light on the end of the controller that we'll use to track movement and is also almost always just outside the field of view. That won't cause nausea.

Vestibular CCK signaling drives motion sickness–like behavior in mice
Machuca-Márquez et al. (2023) PNAS. https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2304933120
We reveal that a vestibulo-parabrachial (VN-PBN) CCKergic projection is sufficient to induce conditioned taste avoidance, likely through the activation of calcitonin gene-related peptide-expressing PBN neurons. Finally, we underscore the role of CCK-A receptor signaling as a druggable target.

Quite #disappointing when people #comment after only #reading the #headline and not the actual #article. Just read a post where a young #college #student had to ask someone to vacate a seat she reseved cause she needed that specific seat to prevent #motionsickness, and of course the comments got very #ableist from people who clearly didn’t #read the whole article cause all they got about he #r from the headline is that she’s a young #collegestudent and didn’t see she also has an #invisibledisability. Wish there was a requirement where you have to scroll through the entire article before you can comment. #ableism #disabled #disability
