Lucky to attract not one, not two, but three PEBBLE PROMINENTS last night and also the always hilarious Gonzo-esque SPECTACLE moth. Don't ever tell me moths aren't beautiful...

Despite a cold night and a 5:00am downpour, a few nice moths came to visit including the ever beautiful MERVEILLE DU JOUR (1& 2), my first ever CHESTNUT (3) and a typically autumnal RED-LINE QUAKER (4).

Still not much species variety in the trap. Same old, same old. Hoping for some Oranges or a Merveille du Jour.
However, whilst I’ve shared this particular species a few times recently, last night’s example was a nice fresh one. Gawd knows how I’m going to #alttext it, but I’ll give it a go…

Probably my fav moth seen #InMyGarden - though rare - is the Gold Spot. I’m looking out for it as September approaches. I did get a pic of one last year, as you see. It has a great name. Plusia festucae - presumably bec it looks like a rich jewel (as in Greek ‘plousios’, rich) & likes a habitat of tufted-grass (festuca).
It also likes damp habitats, exactly as my garden is now after weeks of rainy days. 🌧️#moths #lepidoptery #GoldSpotMoth #GayGardener #MothsOfMastodon #macro #macroPhotography

16 moths of 9 species last night, including three new for the garden species:
1) The wondrous monster that is this beautiful Lime Hawk-moth
2) and 3) The googly-eyed, tongue-lolling Lunar Thorn
3) Micromoth Syndemis Musculana

Look what my husband rescued from the pool. She’s enormous—about the size of my hand. Isn’t she beautiful? 🤩😍 #insects #mothstodon #MothsOfMastodon #ILoveBugs

Smol mothinvestigated and fell into my coffee this morning.
Don't worry, as the second photo attests, it was rescued and will now be wired for the next 24 hours.

On a bathroom wall in Taiwan. So badass. Macrocilix mysticata, one of the hooktip moths.

That's pleasing. This winter has been especially bereft of moth around my house, but I just encountered this chap glued to my inside wall. Possibly got in on some wood for the fire. I think it's an Agonopterix rosaciliella, which would be the first new species of the year. Mazel tov!
