Some "one year on Nostr" observations:

    💜:
    * Organic, ground-up community building: No "celebrity star-f**king", big drama around follower counts, etc... Just "hey this person seems interesting, I'll follow."
    * Zaps. The ability to make money from social media without intermediaries is absolutely revolutionary.
    * Really cool ideas around what to do with a decentralized, censorship-resistant social graph: Web(s) of trust, service marketplaces like #catallax, etc
    * Interoperability with the only other truly open protocol #mastodon via the #momostr and (when it works) #mostr bridges
    * Independent, timely news sources like @npub1f4uyypghstsd8l4sxng4ptwzk6awfm3mf9ux0yallfrgkm6mj6es50r407@momostr.pink -- still early days, but this model of journalism will become more and more important
    * The memes are, to quote the vernacular, quite "dank"

    🫤:
    * The endless waves of hype over vibe-coding. Bit of irony here that the advocates of a decentralized platform should be so excited over AI systems that are centralized into 2-3 companies?
    * Overton window is pretty far to the Right. Like, outright white supremacists with pretty big followings. But fortunately it's easy enough to mute and move on...

  3. Blocked the whole mostr.pub bridge domain as I got more and more completely unrelated seemingly #Nostr postings as reply notifications via #Mostr, neither mentioning me nor being replies to one of my Mastodon posts.

Example: mostr.pub/objects/caa8284d2b3d (But this link just returns a huge JSON file if opened in a browser. 🙄)

Bug in Mastodon? Bug in Mostr? Both?

I'm not sure where that essay it, can you send me a link?

I was looking back at the official #mostr and #momostr documentation and realized I completely forgot that you need to follow the relays for content to federate.

    https://soapbox.pub/blog/mostr-fediverse-nostr-bridge/

    https://momostr.pink/

I know both have had outages of their own, so there is definitely a chance that those broke federation/bridging and caused issues. This explains why some accounts I can view across both networks from #mostr, and why for some I can see them from #momostr.

New #NewYears resolution: leave some #Fediverse instances! There are some instances that haven't been working for a while, so I will be abandoning the following:

    #AntiSocial (a.nti.social) @[email protected]

This instance has been down for months, so I haven't been able to make posts. I won't be making a new account to replace this one.

    #Gleasonator (gleasonator.com) @[email protected]

This instance has also been down for months. This account has been my emergency alt, I will be replacing it with this one.

    #mostr (mostr.pub)

This instance has been non-functional for about as long as #Gleasonator has been down. I will be replacing it with #momostr.
  6. The new overview over followers from big #media accounts in the #Fediverse:

    @tazgetroete &
@tagesschau are big on #Friendica, #Hubzilla seems very German.

@ProPublica & @arstechnica are big on #Hometown, but the latter is the largest almost everywhere.

@mediapart seems very much concentrated on #Mastodon, @heiseonline is the only one seen from #Bluesky & the largest on #Mostr (comparable to @tagesschau)

Not sure if I've posted about this but #mostr bridging to the #Fediverse seems to have been down for some time now.
  8. #nostr is a little ridiculous because just look at this 😂 I'm sure it looks more normal on the #nostr side than the #Fediverse side (this is being bridged by #mostr) but still!

    RT: https://mostr.pub/objects/12f7e863c31b15e2a35fad3c49fe2d445c72da28cecc1df1be889d6210e7cd61
  9. how does #mostr / #nostr handle moderation? when I report an account, where does it go?

  10. Getting some reports about #mostr accounts that seem to just spew word soup, maybe to spam hashtags and links but after reading through a few profiles, I'm unsure what the deal there is. Am I right in assuming that nostr is by design more or less unmoderateable? Is that reason enough to block the bridge? #FediAdmin

#Mostr bridge now adds client tags to events.
  12. Aquí otro al que le han clonado el perfil con #mostr 😠

So a thing happened and I'm kinda flabbergasted. There appears to be a campaign to shut down the Mostr (Nostr <> ActivityPub bridge). Dunno how big it is, but apparently at least one DMCA complaint has been filed. This is all on account of the bridge duplicating posts and profiles on ActivityPub.

For those unaware, THIS IS LITERALLY HOW ACTIVITY PUB IS BUILT TO WORK. Every Activity Pub server duplicates content. Without it there'd be no seeing posts from anybody on servers other than their home server. It's literally the thing that makes the protocol work. If being on a protocol that specifically is designed to duplicate content isn't permission enough to duplicate content then the Fediverse goes poof. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

Convince Cloudflare, or worse - convince a judge - that a protocol designed around federating content isn't permission to federate content and that's that for #ActivityPub. I'd personally prefer to see both protocols do well; please, if anybody reads this, learn how things work before trying to break things for working as intended.

The way the instance-wide mute on #NoAuthority works is I can see your replies and posts but only if I follow you. I asked the admin about it, he says he muted #Mostr, #Momostr and #Nostr because it doesn’t have a system to flag stuff as NSFW so that led to a bunch of nudity and stuff to flood the federated timeline unchecked. I think he had some #CSAM concerns too, I can’t remember.

  16. 1. I can't make #Mostr to interact with a Fediverse-Threads account, thus, no Fediverse Profile is created on Threads side, which makes it impossible to follow a bridged #Nostr account via #Threads (since Threads doesn't offer Fediverse account search yet).

    2. Fediverse to Nostr seems to have stopped. Of the random accounts I checked on the #NOSTRich side, the most recent sync was November 28th, followed by November 23rd. Although Mostr's status page is showing all systems green.

    3. However, BskyBridgy to Nostr is working fine, almost real-time. (I didn't check Nostr to BskyBridgy.)

    Thinking about subdomains on #Mostr.

For example instead of alex_at_gleasonator.com[@]mostr.pub, I'm thinking alex[@]gleasonator.com.mostr.pub

Why? Because then each Fediverse server can be distinct on the Nostr side using regular nip05 domain filtering.

In the other direction, I'm thinking about doing basically the same thing. I would go ahead and let Mastodon catch on fire over the fact you can't change usernames.

  21. One thing I'm noticing, the format to follow from #Fediverse to #Nostr or #Nostr to #Fediverse through #momostr is to use the npub but through #mostr it's to use the hex
