  1. 1 - Animal Crossing: New Horizons (830 hours)

By far my most-played game on the Switch. Funny enough, I was pretty skeptical at first and only picked it up because a coworker kept recommending it.

Turned out to be the perfect game at the perfect time. When the pandemic hit, my little island became a peaceful escape. That daily check-in became part of my routine for years.

If it didn’t run so poorly by now, I’d probably go back for a visit. A Switch 2 version? I’d be interested.

  2. 2 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (245 hours)

How did I rack up that many hours? Well, we had a little Mario Kart boot camp at home during the early pandemic days. I showed the kids how to drive and use the items. Now they don’t need driving assists anymore and regularly destroy adults at game nights with friends and family.

    Can’t say I’m not proud. 😁

Also curious to see what the next Mario Kart brings to the table.

  3. 3 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (170 hours)

One of the Switch’s launch titles, and impressive for many reasons.
It took a bold new direction for the series, but even more than that, it showcased what made the Switch special.
I can’t count how many times I played it on the train ride home and then continued right away on the TV after docking. That felt genuinely cool at the time.

The game itself is beautiful, but my biggest gripe is the 30 FPS limit. And the fact that it often drops below that. Let’s see if a Switch 2 version with 60 FPS can tempt me back to Hyrule.

  4. Only three entries left in my #MossysSwitchCountdown!
I've been counting down my most-played games on #NintendoSwitch — and we’re now entering the top 3.

Feel free to place your bets: which titles will take the podium? 🤔

  5. 5 - Stardew Valley (120 hours)

Probably the most well-known cozy game out there. It clearly draws inspiration from Harvest Moon, but surpasses it in depth and scope in so many ways. That’s what pulled me in so quickly.

Even more impressive: the entire game was developed almost entirely by Eric Barone on his own.

  6. 5 - Dragon Quest XI S (120 hours)

Like many fans of the series, I have nostalgic memories tied to the art style and music; especially the Dragon Quest IV renmke on the DS. Part XI brings back everything that makes the series so charming, even if the occasional crude joke wasn’t really my thing.

What stuck with me most was the unexpected connection the story makes back to the early games after the “final” boss battle.

A fantastic moment for longtime JRPG fans.

  7. 6 - Octopath Traveler (105 hours)

I knew this was my kind of game the moment I played the demo. The classic battle system with a few smart twists and that gorgeous HD-2D art style had me hooked from the start.

What really made it one of my favorite games on the Switch, though, was the music by Yasunori Nishiki. Incredible melodies and beautiful instrumentation. Just outstanding!

  9. 7 - Nintendo Switch Sports (85 hours)

Back on the Wii, I spent a ridiculous number of hours with Wii Sports. Golf and bowling were essential party staples with friends, and I had a feeling the "sequel" would pull me in again.😅

Of course, I got hooked on golf and bowling all over again.
The weekly gear drops didn’t help either.

(A little side-note: The Hole-in-one in the video is the only Hole-in-one I ever got in the game.)

  10. 8 - Miitopia (70 hours)

    Now here’s an oddball.

I originally picked up Miitopia just for a few fun sessions with the kids after we enjoyed the demo together. Putting our own Miis into a slightly unhinged fantasy setting led to plenty of laughs. And somehow, I ended up getting hooked myself.

    No regrets! 😎

  11. 9 - Diablo III: Eternal Collection (50 hours)

Most of my time with Diablo III actually happened on the PS4. Playing couch co-op with my wife during those early months after our first child was born. We were at home a lot, and teaming up to clear Sanctuary became a surprisingly fun and welcome way to unwind together.

The Switch version was more of a spontaneous pick-up for portable play. It never quite matched the PS4 sessions, but I’m still glad I grabbed it.

  12. With the #NintendoSwitch2 just about two weeks away, I thought it’d be a good time to look back at the games I’ve played the most on the #NintendoSwitch since its launch.
A perfect excuse to collect my personal Top 10 under #MossysSwitchCountdown - each with a short thought or little story attached.

Sometimes even a metalhead needs a cozy game to survive the grind. 😉

Can’t wait to revisit these! One game a day, starting tomorrow!
