  1. "[ACC] now accepts Mr Buxton has a moderate-to-severe brain injury. But says it's still coded as "mild or other" in its internal system, due to 'coding limitations'. Mr Buxton says this impacts the care he receives, and he wants it fixed."

    Fair enough too, this is literally "computer says no"! It's so many levels of unacceptable I just don't have the words.

    Won't somebody rid us of these turbulent offshore-hosted proprietary systems?

  2. Chris #Luxon is very good at not answering any questions. It’s not up to the #US and #Israel to determine if the strikes on #Iran are a breach of international law. It’s up to the international community, including NZ, to determine if their very thin justifications under Article 51 stack up.

    The NZ Prime Minister should be able to take a stand, either one way or the other. Not being blown around in the wind of the breath of whichever interviewer is asking him questions at the time.

  3. "David Seymour, deputy prime minister and leader of coalition partner ACT, expressed concern on Tuesday intensification would upset people in his electorate of Epsom, the country's wealthiest, because high-rise buildings might end up 'looking into everyone's backyards and their swing sets and their pools'."

    This tells you everything you need to know about Rimmer's priorities.

  4. "The coalition government is exploring the potential sale of its stake in the telecommunications lines company Chorus after investing in the rollout of ultrafast broadband."

    Good to see Peters has found his spine again for long enough to attack selling off chunks of essential infrastructure as the clueless nonsense it is. But I bet the Greens' criticism is a bit more fact-based. "Failed to fix the economy fast enough" my arse.

  5. Nicola Willis on #MorningReport doesn’t know what to say when she can’t blame Labour for something

  6. "... the teaching the use of AI is really different from teaching how AI works. They're quite different subjects really
    ... how AI works is a classic STEM subject and we certainly need in our country people who know how to do that ... the use of AI is a much broader one ... it's an interdisciplinary subject ... I'm not sure whether it fits in one course ..."

  7. "Mayors sign letter opposing changes to Māori wards"

    Go NZ mayors!

    "A Hawke's Bay mayor says the government's proposed changes to Māori wards are racist, because councils can create other wards without requiring a referendum."

    rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/

    This is a good example of how networked activity by local government politicians can serve as a decentralised upper house.

  8. "But what is being lost [at DOC]... is science capacity, it's policy capacity, it's resource management space - that's losing heaps of people - and it's in line with the government's directive that we're going to prioritise short term economic goals over environment and sustainability. But in a time of biodiversity crisis I think this is seriously worrying."

  9. #JonathanAyling gives a fairly nuanced perspective on the free speech implications of calls to censure Prof Joanna Kidman, for her comments about the NatACTs' dopey Boot Camps.

    In a nutshell, he says that as an academic her employer should be tireless in its defence of her freedom of expression. But in her role as a ministerial advisor, a non-partisan approach to public comment is called for;

  10. RNZ’s selection of exclusively Pākehā #NZPol journalists on #MorningReport discussing the danger for Chris Hipkins calling out #NewZealand racism tells us all we need to know about how deeply white our National broadcaster is. #NZPol

  11. CW: Election interference

    @benchaotica @AnneleiseHall
    US based RW global organisation #TheAtlasNetwork whose NZ members include the #NZInitiative and the #TaxPayersUnion are behind the #Groundswell astroturf group. The other morning I texted #RNZ #MorningReport asking why they didn’t declare Stuff’s political editor Luke Malpass’ association with the Atlas Network. NZs very democracy is being dismantled by big $. #NZPol

  12. @AnneleiseHall @jeremy_pm

    "The media have done a poor job teasing that out."

    Indeed. And when I listen to #Morningreport, I grit my teeth when Corin Dann doesn't ask some fairly obvious questions of people like Luxon and Willis.

    Oh I yearn for Kim Hill on the morning programme... *sighs*

  13. The easiest way to spot a racist is when they call Labour divisive for supporting te tiriti o Waitangi, the founding document of Aotearoa New Zealand. If I was a producer on #RNZ #MorningReport I would choose not to select messages to be read out that are so inflammatory. Imo, #RNZ are becoming very irresponsible. #NZPol #NZMedia

  14. Andrew Geddis just gave a great explanation of Māori water interests and, importantly, the advantages of the co-governance model. #RNZ #MorningReport #NZPol

  15. #NZTwits, while listening to #MiddayReport on #RNZ sans Māni Dunlop, she resigned after failing to get the #MorningReport co-presenter role which was given to yet another Pākehā host, made me consider how many permanent non Pākehā presenters on RNZ other than for culturally specific shows. I can’t think of a single one. Just wondering if anyone can name a single person who fits the description? #NZPol

  16. Will #RNZ #MorningReport ever consider allowing Māori voices to discuss co-governance on air? The supposed objecting pākehā viewpoint is all we ever hear. #NZPol
