  3. CW: Arizona's Supreme Court guts mandatory reporting law, harming children (child abuse, sexual abuse of a minor, religious abuse, abuse cover up)

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution means that clergy cannot be held legally or civilly responsible for failure to follow the state's mandatory reporting laws.

The ruling stems from a civil suit against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over their bishops failing to report a member of their congregation. The congregation member had confessed to sexually abusing at least one of his children. The bishop encouraged the congregant to turn himself in or have the congregant's wife turn him in but took no further action to protect the congregant's children.

    Per KJZZ:

Attorney Lynne Cadigan represents the children of (abuser's name redacted by Eve) who were the victims of the unreported sexual abuse at the heart of this case. She said she intends to seek review by the U.S. Supreme Court. (...)

"This gives all religions absolute immunity to keep child abuse secret," she said.

"This makes Arizona a very dangerous state for children," Cadigan continued. "We have made it more dangerous, less safe, and give churches complete immunity to hide and conceal sex offenders."

  13. Hype for the Future 133LDS: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Introduction Though Joseph Smith was originally born within the boundaries of the State of Vermont, his experiences within the upper New York region had resulted in the eventual formation of the LDS Church, thus forming the modern-day concept of Mormonism. After New York, the historic sites associated with Joseph Smith had pushed increasingly westward, from a site in Harmony (now known as Oakland), Pennsylvania, west to sites in Kirtland, Ohio, followed by Nauvoo, Illinois. After being […]

  20. I bet that I live to see #Mormonism fully embrace an authoritarian government.

Let’s see… they have actively campaigned against gay marriage and continue to do so. They will ride this transphobic hate wave all the way back to getting marriage equality revoked.

Hell, if the #fascists take over, I could even see a return to taking the priesthood away from minorities. Maybe even getting some form of religious exception for plural wives. All for the sake of America First!
