Dunland – Oh, Guto. When Will You Learn?
Once I left the Grey Company back in Enedwaith I was free to move forward into Dunland. I headed back to the first settlement I had stumbled upon, having had the foresight to grab the stable master location while I was there. [caption id="attachment_134210" align="aligncenter" width="600"] My first look at Dunland[/caption] That is Lhan Tarren, which I think is Dunlandish for Tarren Mill. Or maybe that is just what I want to believe. But it is the home of the Stag Clan in Dunland. […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/28/oh-guto-when-will-you-learn/

Diverted from Dunland – The Grey Company Slowly Assembles
Forward on to Mordor! The next stop is Dunland, which I glimpsed briefly when I was chasing down one of the quests for The Huntsman back in Enedwaith. [caption id="attachment_134210" align="aligncenter" width="600"] My first look at Dunland[/caption] At first glace... it looked a lot like Enedwaith... which looks a lot like Eregion in places, which looks like the North Downs... I get it, the art team can only do so much and at least it isn't Minecraft where every forest biome ends up […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/23/diverted-from-dunland-the-grey-company-slowly-assembles/

Experiencing Enedwaith
Having decided to eschew Mirkwood, Lothlorien, the phishing attempt by Lady Galadriel to get me to come do the heavy lifting in Dol Guldur, and hopefully the balky server performance I was experiencing, I turned in that last quest about the siege engines and invoked the hunter "Guide to Rivendell" skill. [caption id="attachment_134103" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Being a hunter has its shortcuts[/caption] I chose Rivendell over a number of other options... I have buttons for Bree, […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/21/experiencing-enedwaith/

Lag and Loathing in Lothlorien
Lt. Colonel Giles Vandeleur: Joe? Joe, how the hell do they expect us to keep schedule on a road like this? Lt. Colonel J.O.E. Vandeleur: You don't know the worst. This bit we're on now? Lt. Colonel Giles Vandeleur: Yes? Lt. Colonel J.O.E. Vandeleur: It's the wide part. -A Bridge Too Far (film), 1977 I don't know if it is the zone, that more people have piled into the Glamdring server, if housing having been opened up to the masses caused a change, or if something else is going on, but […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/17/lag-and-loathing-in-lothlorien/

Out the Far Side of Moria and into Lothlorien
I played a lot of LOTRO over the weekend. It was that or finish our taxes, and who wants to do that? So even as I wrapped up the last post about getting to the Twenty-First Hall, I went back and pressed forward towards the first hall and the light at the end of the tunnel. Or mines. Or whatever. [caption id="attachment_33726" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Moria Zones[/caption] I actually got through Moria quicker than I thought I would. On the other hand, I did binge a bit […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/16/out-the-far-side-of-moria-and-into-lothlorien/

Moria, The Twenty-First Hall, and My First Reforge
As noted last time around, I had lingered to the end in Eregion, running out of quests. It was then time, about half way into level 53, to head into Moria. [caption id="attachment_133872" align="aligncenter" width="600"] The doors are open, darkness awaits[/caption] Moria is an odd mix for me. I have been into it enough times that I remember quite clearly some of it. I know that at least six characters of mine have arrived through the Hollin Gate, even it only three have ever […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/14/moria-the-twenty-first-hall-and-my-first-reforge/

Lingering in Eregion
As I have written here probably too many times at this point, my current run at Lord of the Rings Online is not focused on being completionist. I do not need to do all the things. I have even decided to be somewhat lax on the epic quest line. The goal is to get to Mordor. And then I hit Eregion, which is not a zone I have an affinity for generally... at least not at the level of Evendim or the Lone Lands. It is a place... even a pretty place at times... but it isn't exactly a […] -
Forochel, Eregion, and My Legendary Items
Picking up from last time, once I hit the quest level step in the middle of Angmar, I headed off to Forochel to continue my journey towards Mordor. Into the land of snow... or another land of snow, since the Misty Mountains are also a snow zone. [caption id="attachment_133771" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Snowy times in Forochel[/caption] I have gone on about the negative side of the zone before. While I am not a huge fan of snow zones... just one would have been fine... what […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/07/forochel-eregion-and-my-legendary-items/

The Trollshaws, the Misty Mountains, and some Angmar
Wrapping up in Evendim means, for me, wrapping up the zones of Middle-earth which which I am well acquainted. Breeland, the Lone Lands, Evendim, and even the North Downs, those are places I have spent quite a bit of time. As noted in my character inventory post, I have a bunch of characters that I left off playing somewhere in the level 27-42 range, which is solidly in the Lone Lands to Evendim zone. Part of the problem is that many of these zones, certainly Evendim and the Lone Lands, […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/04/the-trollshaws-the-misty-mountains-and-some-angmar/

The Highlight of Evendim
At various points on my journey through Evendim I had to remind myself that I was not here for a completionist run. I didn't need to do every single quest and finish every last deed. And I did eschew chunks of the content, opting not to get drawn into the whole drama at the north end of the zone. I did have a moment of wondering why I enjoy this zone... I mean sure, it is a quest and deed rich environment and the rep grind for the Wardens is pretty easy, but it isn't like other zones […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/04/02/the-highlight-of-evendim/

I Wanted Evendim, I got Esteldin
My plan was simple. I just wanted to finish up the epic quest line in the Lone Lands and then move along to Evendim, the next sort of epic quests overload zone on my list. [caption id="attachment_69586" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Lord of the Rings Online[/caption] I had been bopping around Ost Guruth long enough. I had finished up some of the deeds, done the regular series of quests, and now I just wanted to go talk to Radagast and get myself finished with Book II. LOTRO 64-Bit Server Transfers and My Character Inventory
Transfers are currently available from our 32-bit game worlds to Peregrin and Meriadoc. Additionally, free transfers are now available from Orcrist to Meriadoc. All transfers to Glamdring and Orcrist are temporarily unavailable. Housing remains unavailable to purchase, and we will announce when housing opens. -LOTRO Discord, Friday March 21, 2025 The wheel of server transfer time continues to weave an erratic and hapless pattern as SSG continues to try to work their way through this mess […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/03/22/lotro-64-bit-server-transfers-and-character-inventory/

Boom Times at the Forsaken Inn
As I pretty much said at the end of my last LOTRO post, I had arrived in the Lone Lands. It was time to dig into my most played and, perhaps, favorite zone. [caption id="attachment_69586" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Lord of the Rings Online[/caption] Of course, you don't go straight there... not if you're following the epic quest line, and one of the parameters of this play through is sticking to at least that narrative thread as I go through the game. I have skipped a bunch of […]https://tagn.wordpress.com/2025/03/21/boom-times-at-the-forsaken-inn/

My First LOTRO Transfers Have Arrived on Glamdring… and Now What?
So yes, great news, my characters from Landroval have arrived! SSG apparently used some of the downtime last week to let the database operations spin because before that they said they were just getting to characters in the queue early Saturday before that and mine were queued up late Sunday or early Monday depending on your time zone, but showed up the evening of the downtime. Yay! [caption id="attachment_69586" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Lord of the Rings Online[/caption] I […] -
The First Stop on the Way to Mordor… The Bank
Didn't I have a post last week that I opened up with something about not declaring goals for my play time? And yet, here I am declaring an ambitious goal. Swept up as I have been with the excitement of the new LOTRO 64-bit servers and their promise of better game performance, I am setting my sights on Mordor. [caption id="attachment_59293" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Mordor, we have an eye on you![/caption] My sweeping goal is to get to Mordor by the most expeditious route...
