Certainly, Imperial Japan committed many civilian atrocities, especially in Manchuria, Korea and China where the Rape of Nanking stands out as only one of the worst kind.

There is no denying that war, whether fought for justice and freedom or for the growth of an empire or out of fear will bring out the worst (and, ironically, the best) in humanity. The human condition is such, I regret to say, that war is a pestilence that will be visited on us as for as long as we survive as a specie. And if our planet has any say in it at all, we are not long from extinction.

So depressing…
