Included in Missouri's Amendment 3 is a provision banning #transgender care for minors.
Keep in mind, Missouri already passed a law banning #gender-affirming care for #trans kids. That's all such care, including hormonal. Gender-affirming care for cis kids using the same medications and procedures (such as puberty blockers) is of course, still allowed, because these treatments are safe and are administered thoughtfully by trained professionals. This ban absolutely should be overturned, but won't be anytime soon by our GOP legislature.
So why include the ban on the already-banned transgender care for minors in Amendment 3? Because that's the only way they think the #AbortionBan will pass (openly admitted in an organizing meeting).
Once again, the GOP is using #transphobia to further their agenda of oppression. Don't fall for it! Don't be transphobic!
Vote NO on Amendment 3 this November in #Missouri.

With Amendments 4 and 5 reduced to ashes, time to move on to the next terrible idea put on the ballot by the #Missouri #GOP: Amendment 3, on the ballot in November.
Vote NO on Amendment 3.
Amendment 3 would remove the constitutional right to #abortion care that Missourians voted for in 2024, returning abortion control to our GOP legislature (which passed an abortion ban ahead of Dobbs, so giddy are they about controlling pregnant people's bodies).
Under Amendment 3, abortion would be "protected" only in cases of "medical emergency" or fetal anomaly (and we've seen what avoidably tragic results that's produced in other states) or in very limited cases of rape and incest up to 12 weeks. It's is, for all intents and purposes, an #AbortionBan.
AND, icing on the cake, GOP legislators are trying to use #transphobia to get the abortion ban to pass...

GOP politicians in #Missouri wasted so much time this legislative session pushing these measures onto the ballot, against widespread and fierce opposition. They were told, over and over again, that these were bad ideas and why they were bad ideas. Nevertheless, they persisted, and have received their comeuppance.
It's the GOP, so it's not like they would have spent the time coming up with proposals that would improve lives and opportunities for Missourians, but there is so much that could be done by a legislature interested in the business of government, rather than doing the bidding of dark money donors.

Good news out of #Missouri this primary #election! Voters resoundingly rejected both Amendment 4 and Amendment 5, which had been placed on the ballot by our GOP-dominated legislature in an attempt to strip more power from voters (GOP politicians hate voters. They ❤️ donors).
Amendment 4 would have made it nearly impossible for citizen-initiated ballot measures to succeed, while keeping the current, lower bar for legislature-initiated measures.
Amendment 5 would have phased out the state income #tax and gave the legislature the power to replace the revenue through raising/creating sales taxes on all goods and services. The rich would pay less tax and the legislature would decide who wins and loses in this sales tax free-for-all.
Both measures went down in flames.
🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥They didn't just lose; they lost in *every* county. Not just every congressional district. EVERY. COUNTY.

Reminder:
Fellow Missourians, vote no on Amendments 4 and 5 today. Let's collectively kick the billionaires and the fascists in the dick.
-
Fellow Missourians... this is your reminder: Vote no on State amendments 4 and 5.
Don't make it easier for the Republican supermajority to ignore the will of the people, like they've tried to do repeatedly with right-to-work and local minimum wage increases.
And, obviously, don't make it easier for them to transfer our wealth to the billionaires by supercharging sales taxes.
Make a plan to vote today if you have early voting, or tomorrow if not. Cheers.

Early voted today in #Missouri! Monday is the last day for early voting and then polls are open 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. on August 4 (Election Day). I saw one turnout prediction of just under 30% which, given some of the crucial issues on the ballot, means we have some work to do on that participatory democracy thing.
In the meantime, it means that every vote is extra important! If you haven't voted, please vote and vote NO on Amendment 4 (which would make it virtually impossible to pass citizen ballot initiatives, while exempting the measures legislators put on the ballot from the same stringent requirements)
and vote NO on Amendment 5, which replaces the state income tax with higher sales taxes and new taxes on services. Most of us would pay *more* in taxes so the rich can pay less!

And I hope you're seeing some NO on Amendment 5 signs as well! - the "Missouri Promise" ads I've seen supporting 5 are *so* duplicitous - they talk as if cutting "waste" will make up for all the money lost through eliminating the income tax, which unless you think that education, infrastructure, public safety, healthcare, and economic development are wasteful, just doesn't add up. So instead revenue will be raised through regressive sales taxes on all kinds of services, just so the wealthy don't have to pay income tax. Arrrghggghghghghgh.

A reminder to #Missouri voters - this healthcare option brought to you by the citizen ballot initiative process, which Amendment 4 (on the August 4 primary ballot) is designed to effectively end. Vote NO on Amendment 4.
(Also, looking ahead to the November election, Vote NO on Amendment 3, which would reinstate Missouri's #abortion ban).

Amendment 4 is on the August 4 primary ballot in #Missouri. Short version: it ends the citizen initiative.
Missouri voters have used the ballot initiative process to pass #Medicaid expansion, end Missouri's #abortion ban, and raise the minimum wage. And now the #GOP state legislature wants to make it virtually impossible for citizen-initiated ballot initiatives to pass, while not subjecting legislature-initiated initiatives to the same standards. It's another example of #TheyCantWinSoTheyCheat.
Vote NO on Amendment 4.

For #Missouri's State Senate District #4 (covering much of St. Louis). Incumbent Karla May is not running due to term limits.
Steve #Butz's record on #abortion rights is not only concerning, it is down right disastrous. (Pro reproductive rights group) Abortion Action Missouri has even set up a page showing Butz's track record in supporting abortion bans. Gina Mitten has a strong record supporting women's health access, including access to abortion.

First step in #FreeSpeech protection taken! Lower court strikes down Missouri's 2023 law targeting #librarians and #teachers that caused hundreds of books to be removed!
It will be appealed, of course - my taxpayer dollars going to defending #BookBans rather than, say, funding schools. The #MO Supreme Court is hardly a bastion of liberalism, so a long legal road ahead. (caveats concluded)
Yay! 🥳

Hey #Missouri folks! If you'd like to join the fight against #BookBans and in support of #Libraries and #Librarians, you can join (as an individual or an organization) the Missouri Right to Read Coalition. There are no fees to join, and it's an excellent way to stay informed and stand up for the #FirstAmendment.

Mark Alford's "if you didn't want to hear my lies, why did you come here" might be right up there w/Richard J. Daley Sr.'s "the police are not here to create disorder, they're here to preserve disorder," for politicians maybe accidentally telling the truth. #USpol #MOpol #MarkAlford #alford

I am livid about this authoritarian move by my Senator, Eric Schmitt, who has unilaterally decided that what #StLouis needs is federal police enforcement, not community-based solutions, to reduce crime. This "federal-state" collusion explicitly does not include the city government, does not represent consultations with St. Louisans directly affected, and will waste $$ at a time when the federal help St. Louis really needs is in #tornado recovery.
And this just after Missourians (not St. Louis - which rejected the proposal) voted to put our #GOP state government in charge of the #StL city police, which includes requiring a dedicated amount of funding for the police, regardless of other priorities.
I'm about to run out of characters for this toot in my first time ever, I'm so mad. Anyway, for others in #Missouri who would like to express their opinion, Sen. Schmitt's office phone is (202) 224-5721

Missouri voters **just passed** this amendment in November 2024. For citizens, getting an initiative on the ballot is labor intensive - I spent a couple weekends last spring gathering signatures in mid-Missouri because the requirements are extensive and precise. Yet our #Republican dominated legislature can place issues on the ballot with a simple majority vote, regardless of how ill-conceived or contrary to just-expressed voter wishes, and we have to fight all over again. Bonus: this ballot proposal contains anti-trans bait unrelated to abortion but designed to use #transphobia to hurt women/pregnant people. But #trans folks are the real threat to women??? #abortion #MOPol #USPol #Missouri.

#GOTV canvassing for #PropA and #Amendment3 in suburban #StLouis yesterday. Lots of people had already voted (yay!), but lots of ground to cover to see these ballot measures through. You can vote no-excuse early in #Missouri through November 4. Or on November 5 (Election Day).
Voting for these measures would #RaisetheMinimumWage & guarantee paid sick leave (PropA) and #EndTheBanMO, restoring abortion rights in Missouri (Amendment 3) With your support, they can pass!
