  1. CW: alc Alcohol aperatif

    This week's cocktail is a loving tribute to chain smoking, the one thing everyone agreed was super keen in the late 80's and early 90's... so without further ado let me present:

    ===- Luke Skywalker, FBI -===
    Ingredients:
    1oz each of:
    🔸 Mezcal
    🔸 Campari
    🔸 Sweet Vermouth
    🔸 Pineapple Juice
    and:
    🔸 Grapefruit soda (Fresca or store brand)

    Pour everything except the soda into a rocks glass, stir well and add a stainless steel freezer ball (This is the guyver!). Top off with enough grapefruit soda to make it taste balanced to you.

    Take a sip every time Mark Hamill has a cigarette while watching "The Guyver"

    Artists rendition (I just tested this, it's not worse than a normal Negroni, to me):

    @JoeWynne

    This week's *unofficial* cocktail:

    🛟🥤🍸🕷️The Boozy Spoyduh🕷️🍸🥤🛟

    This is a simple one, so simple I can't believe it never occurred to me before. Take a "Spider" (an Ice cream float in Australia and New Zealand) and add 2-4 oz of your favorite booze. That's it, that's the cocktail.

    Ingredients:
    ==========
    Ice Cream/Gelato/froyo/CocowHip/NOT Sherbet
    Soda
    Booze.

    Warnings, do not operate heavy machinery, probably stay indoors after having it. You can probably do sherbet if you want. For a non-alcoholic version don't use booze.

    So TIL the _reason_ they call it a spider in Australia/NZ is because the froth looks like spiderwebs after you add the dairy to the soda:

  3. @jivens @JoeWynne If you never want to miss the action I always add #monsterdrinks (plural) to my attempts at making the cocktail, and I think Joe uses #monsterdrink singular for the recipes, so those would be good to subscribe to.

    One note if you want to make this week's in the future- I learned you don't need to get a lot of chia seed, a little goes a long way, that was a 3/4 of a shot glass full that, when soaked, expanded them to nearly the entire highball glass minus the ice.

    @Taweret @JoeWynne

    This weeks cocktail is going to be a little out there but it's not that bad actually, once you get used to its peculiarities...

    Chia People
    ====================

    Ingredients:
    90ml Cucumber juice (I reccommend skinning before putting them through the juice-man, you'll see)
    45ml dry gin
    45ml Chartreuse (yellow) or Genepy/Strega
    30 ml Chia seeds (baking or health food aisle at your HEB)
    30 ml Lemon Juice

    Prep time: 20 min

    Steps:
    ----------
    - Juice up some cucumber, it's not bad if you don't skin them but I found it's not as translucent as I've seen in other people's photos.
    - add the Chia seeds to the juice and let sit in a mixing glass for 10-12 minutes. You'll see why.
    -add the other ingredients and stir well, it will be a thick, viscous mess of stuff with seeds in it.
    - Don't look too close at it.
    - Put in a highball glass with ice.

  5. CW: alc alcohol

    Tonight's "movie" features a very vibrant and eye-catching hairdo, one you don't see every day, the ultimate* combination of bangs and a widow's peak. So in tribute I messed around with someone else's recipe and came up with the:

    MPDG (Moonbase Purplehaired 'Do Gal)
    ==========
    3/4 oz. light, floral Gin
    3/4 oz. Cointreau
    3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
    3/4 oz. Vermouth
    3/4 oz. Absinthe*
    3/4 oz. Creme de Violette
    Edible Glitter and maybe some pea-flower extract to help with the color

    * I _HIGHLY_ recommend just subbing in more gin, unless you like Anise and becoming Mr. Hyde or whatnot.

    Mix in a shaker, shake, and serve over fresh ice in whatever cocktail glass you have handy!

    I modified the recipe from:

    mybartender.com/recipe/midnigh though

    Mostly I just made it equal parts. I don't think the flavor is going to be too different, the absinthe kind of steps up and commandeers the flavor, hard. Again: probably better without that XD #monsterdrink #monsterdrinks #cocktail
