Just finished watching the 6-part mini-series, Monsieur Spade. As a massive fan of Dashiell Hammett's work, I went in feeling pretty sceptical. But it won me over fairly quickly and in the end I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth a watch.
Trigger warnings for violence and a scene of implied sexual assault though.

You all should know that #MonsieurSpade on AMC is really good.
It's beautifully shot in a lovely location and set in an interesting period when the memories of WWII are still lingering among the tensions of the collapse of French imperialism.
Clive Owen is perfect as an older and very weary Sam Spade.
It reminds me a lot of the recent Perry Mason series on HBO that I adored. -

Enjoying #MonsieurSpade ( #AMC ) a lot more than I thought I would. Couple of problems:
1. Through the first few episodes the #CliveOwen hard-boiled Spade has been over-boiled to blandness. (Bogart's Spade occasionally had an artificial outburst just to keep us guessing.)
2. I don't think most U.S. viewers have any awareness of the Algerian War for Independence, and the series hasn't taken the same pains as #TheMalteseFalcon to explain background stuff. -

If your television or film character is a smoker, for heaven's sake, either cast a smoker to play the part or assign the role a more easily-mimicked vice. Especially when the character's smoking is a major plot point! Noticeably fake portrayals of smoking by Clive Owen — himself a former smoker who now, it seems, is understandably reluctant to inhale — are a constant distraction throughout #MonsieurSpade.
