#Remyelination in the CNS is influenced by myeloid cells, including resident #microglia & infiltrating #monocytes. This study shows that infiltrating monocytes inhibit the efficiency of CNS remyelination @PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3RryCLF

Human aging is assoc. with inflammation and intestinal barrier dysfunction. One might assume that barrier permeability would spark increased inflammation. This (and prev.) work suggests the opposite—that #inflammaging, driven by #monocytes and #macrophages appear to *cause* the barrier dysfunction!

Question to anyone familar with #TransHealthcare #Hematology
Is there a relationship between elevated #WBC (#neutrophils, #lymphocytes, #monocytes) & #Platelets, decreased #RBC, #Hemocrit, #Anemia, #Hgb, #mpv and #HRT for male to female #transgender individuals with no other evidence of blood disease, infection or #cancer?
#CTScans are clean, #BoneMarrowBiopsy clean. Doc wants to repeat however.

Infiltrating #monocytes drive #cardiac #dysfunction in a #cardiomyocyte-restricted mouse model of #SARS-CoV-2 infection, J Virol.: https://journals.asm.org/doi/full/10.1128/jvi.01179-24?af=R
These findings establish a mouse #model of SARS-CoV-2 cardiomyocyte infection that recapitulates features of cardiac dysfunctions of COVID-19 and suggests that both viral replication and resultant innate immune responses contribute to cardiac pathology.

" The insights derived from this analysis do not only support a CD19 CAR T cell-mediated reset of the memory B cell compartment, but also the parallel inhibition of the interferon signature
in #monocytes and #Tcells of #SLE patients"https://insight.jci.org/articles/view/179433
Striking that this apparently works better in getting rid of certain memory #Bcells than anti-CD20 antibodies.

Very exciting that this paper is out now in #cancercell: https://www.cell.com/cancer-cell/fulltext/S1535-6108(23)00216-7
In brief: we show that in esophageal #adenocarcinoma #checkpoint #therapy success is predicted by an independent combination of mutation burden and the amount of #monocytes in the tumour pre-treatment (as measured by RNAseq). Very exciting link between #myeloid cells and #immune response to #cancer!

"NB cells signal to the BM microenvironment, rewiring via macrophage migration inhibitory factor and #midkine signaling specifically #monocytes ..."
#Neuroblastoma paper by Fetahu et al., the latest publication from the Taschner-Mandl lab in Vienna.
Going through this right now - very alike our own work - and talking to a few team members on Wednesday while they visit our center.

Second great thread from @jeffgilchrist explaining ways Covid gets around our immune system’s. Here he describes how it shifts monocytes from their protective function to one that leads to more clotting. And, the virus basically grows your nasal cilia like jack and the bean stock (his analogy) to bypass protective mucus.
Fascinating and gnarly.

The paper focuses on #DendriticCells (DC) and #monocytes from a local inflammatory site, in this case synovial fluid from swollen joints of mainly juvenile #arthritis patients.
Very short: one type of DC were very much enriched but seemed relatively quiescent despite the inflammatory surroundings, while other DC and monocytes behaved clearly pro-inflammatory. -
Last week, the paper based on my work in the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) was published, with the title "Conventional dendritic cells type 1 are strongly enriched, quiescent and relatively tolerogenic in local inflammatory arthritis".
https://doi.org/10.3389/fimmu.2022.1101999Credits to Anoushka Samat for taking care of this after I left the department. Without her this work would not be out there. And of course thanks to the rest of the team.

Did you know that during #embryo development, migrating #monocytes deposit tracks of pro-angiogenic #migrasomes guiding the formation of blood vessels?
In this interesting manuscript published in Nature Cell Biology, researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing studied this phenomenon in the chorioallantoic membrane of chick embryos: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41556-022-01026-3
This could have implications in organotypic #tissueengineering and provide new ways how to inhibit #angiogenesis in solid #tumors.
