Economy grows worse day by day
I belive it was about a year ago I had told on my blog that I was participating in a diabetes research study. That study has now been discontinued due to loss of funding. It was mostly diabetes education which I pretty much knew already.
1949 reprint of a 1938 copyrited book.I was also informed that the USDA Farmer’s Market vouchers for seniors had a funding cut. Each distribution center received only 12 vouchers. I’m not sure I believe that. It was just 12 voucher for each distribution center that have over 100 possibly 200 seniors getting the commodities every month. I can’t help but wonder how did they choose who received those twelve? Nobody is saying. This will also hurt the farmers who must pay a fee for a permit to accept the vouchers. Seniors were their largest number of customers every year. This year fewer customers means less reason to pay the permit fee or to pay for a monthly booth rental. I doubt there will be many farm markets this year.
I knew that somewhere I had an original recipe for eggs in tomatoes. I came across it when looking for another recipe.The water and power companies are raising the costs for having and using them. Customers will complain of higher rates. The utility companies will say “no, we’re not raising the rates.” That’s probably true. What they are actually raising are the “fees” of having utilities. This may not have happened yet where you live but it will happen eventually because data centers use a lot of power and water.
I sorted through several pounds of dry beans to replenish my food storage.Everyone’s daily living expenses are getting higher and there’s nothing we can do about it except decide where we can cut back and/or what we will chose to live without. Instead of sitting to write a blog post over the weekend I shopped for a few more items to fill out my pantry before the posibility of rationing. No, I’m not talking about the kind of rationing we had during WW1 and WW2. Remember when we saw paper signs on shelves telling us that due to short supply there was a purchase limit. That’s today’s form of rationing. In rationing the cheapest food items will go first as people cut back in order to pay other bills.
These are the broken or critter bitten beans I sorted out as bad but might be good for use as garden seeds.The reason I believe we may have store rationing is because there aren’t enough farm workers to harvest the crops plus the conflict in the middle east. I can’t help but wonder if by boat the only means of transportation of goods from the middle east? No trains? No trucks? No planes? Not even camels or horses? Aren’t foods produced in other countries being shipped to the USA? What about Spain or Italy or Austrailia or Mexico or Canada? Sure, the tarriffs we pay make the prices higher but aren’t the foods there to purchase? I don’t believe a shortage means a complete disappearance.
Ok, I’m gonna have to end this post because of the intermitten power outages with each storm that travels through my area. I’m seriously ok without power and it only lasts from 30 minutes to an hour or so but its irritating. We are currently in flash flood stage locally but it doesn’t affect me. I’ll write my next post about how I manage to save money on some of my food purchases. Once you know what to look for you’ll start saving money too.
