  1. Hmm, seems I have discovered a new way to be parted from my money.
Some weeks ago I saw a second-hand bass guitar for sale. A couple of weeks ago I bought it. I didn't realise I needed a specific bass amp for it to work nicely.
After some research, today I went and tried different amps at the "Rockshop". Of course I walked out with a more expensive one than I planned.
While there I used one of their new basses. Now I'm home I realise mine is much harder to play nicely. After some searching it seems I should put new strings on to fix this. Maybe fix the action too. This is perhaps best done by a professional so they say. Hmm.....

Someone posted here a while back "The $30 hobby which only costs $100 to start is the best $500 you ever spend". That looks like a bargain compared with my bass-heavy rabbit hole. But I am loving making fun noises. Soon I shall be cosplaying as Tim Commerford.

  6. Played a game of Magic The Gathering: Commander with some work friends at lunchtime. Had a great time, I've played before but this was the first time I've played with my own deck, previously I've borrowed one from another player.

About halfway through I found myself thinking

"this is fun, I wonder what other decks I could get?"
    "..."
"oh. oh no. no no no no. shut *that* thought down"

This is how I end up with no money and a house full of cardboard. Yikes.

  7. The #SpiritOfTasmania IV has suffered another #setback, with the 212-metre ship unable to safely dock at a berth in #Geelong.

The ship was meant to be temporarily stationed at #PointHenry at the port of Geelong, but a safety assessment has ruled that option out. It will instead be based at the Spirit’s existing terminal, another berth, and at anchor.

  8. Just accepted a quote for a new furnace (gas) and heat pump. Scheduled installation is July 14th. The #MoneyPit has begun....

  9. Ah yes, the joy of old not so old 2000s #cars. Our inherited #renault #scenic2 JM now starts to do funny electronic things. So lets do the only reasonable thing and continue to throw money at it.

    - malfunction parking brake (but only if stopping at a traffic light, parking actually works)
    - reverse light flickering
    - windshield wipers intermittent failure (but only for heavy rain, lol).
    - low voltage error codes via OBD
    - AC not activating (no click/no cold air)

My best guess is the engine bay "fusebox" that actually contains some smarts, MosFETs, current sensing and other stuff and supplies all those things. Part number 8200306032. Luckily this part is still available for a reasonable price of ~120 bucks and just takes two weeks shipping for some reason.

We are now approaching ~6k spent to keep it running. But now everything that can fail failed so we should be good, right? RIGHT? Maybe we should've just bought a used EV for 20k...

  10. So, as soon as I order my new PC, I find my car has a coolant leak.

    As foretold by prophecy.

  11. Taking a break from 3d modelling, to check out how my car is after getting too much water in it yesterday.
    Engine seems ok so far
    Wish me luck!

  12. More problems were uncovered as the deck work continues. The back patio is 2 big concrete slabs. Unfortunately, they weren't connected and one of the slabs is very slowly sliding down the very steep hill. And water has gouged out a trough underneath it, which doesn't help. So how we have to figure out how to prop up and pin the slab. oy vey. #MoneyPit

  13. They have finally started working on the deck proper. About 2 weeks later than expected, due to the ant/water damage to the house. Yay? #MoneyPit

  14. Car has passed its MOT, after some pricey work on her Bouncy Bits.
This means I can go ahead and pay the pricey Vehicle Tax, and look forward to paying next year's insurance!

  15. This just in, #vinyl nerds: I'm spinning at a bar and just learned how much better the 12" version of New Order 's "Ceremony " sounds than the 7" (which I also own, and have played a million times). It's like, a HUGE difference!

  16. All I want now are floorstanding speakers with XLR inputs. Is that too much to ask? Then I'll stop. Promise. #MoneyPit #HiFiMadness

  17. This galaxy is called the fireworks galaxy due to 8 observed super novae last century and not due to its Wikipedia talk page entry. It's 5500 times farther away than the cluster in the top left. Shot from my backyard in NE Portland, OR. #astrophotography #moneyPit #smallWorld

The cost of the #obscenely #OverBudget #TransMountain #pipeline expansion, as #TheTyee #predicted last fall, has #increased again by a whopping 44 per cent from $21.4 billion to now $30.9 billion.

Wondered who had asked when I saw Karen's Photos.
When I was a kid, that drilling rig looked new LOL

They have dug up far more film footage than dirt. It's more of a Boys Scout Story than a mystery. The mystery is why there's a series? Anything change? #TheCurseOfOakIsland #TV #Series #Mystery #MoneyPit #Ratings #GotYou
