  1. Mind you, some of these same ppl would (and probably have) vote to decrease or eliminate snap benefits and other meager-but-needed help from the govt.

  4. Hmm, seems I have discovered a new way to be parted from my money.
Some weeks ago I saw a second-hand bass guitar for sale. A couple of weeks ago I bought it. I didn't realise I needed a specific bass amp for it to work nicely.
After some research, today I went and tried different amps at the "Rockshop". Of course I walked out with a more expensive one than I planned.
While there I used one of their new basses. Now I'm home I realise mine is much harder to play nicely. After some searching it seems I should put new strings on to fix this. Maybe fix the action too. This is perhaps best done by a professional so they say. Hmm.....

Someone posted here a while back "The $30 hobby which only costs $100 to start is the best $500 you ever spend". That looks like a bargain compared with my bass-heavy rabbit hole. But I am loving making fun noises. Soon I shall be cosplaying as Tim Commerford.

  9. Played a game of Magic The Gathering: Commander with some work friends at lunchtime. Had a great time, I've played before but this was the first time I've played with my own deck, previously I've borrowed one from another player.

About halfway through I found myself thinking

"this is fun, I wonder what other decks I could get?"
    "..."
"oh. oh no. no no no no. shut *that* thought down"

This is how I end up with no money and a house full of cardboard. Yikes.

  17. Ah yes, the joy of old not so old 2000s #cars. Our inherited #renault #scenic2 JM now starts to do funny electronic things. So lets do the only reasonable thing and continue to throw money at it.

    - malfunction parking brake (but only if stopping at a traffic light, parking actually works)
    - reverse light flickering
    - windshield wipers intermittent failure (but only for heavy rain, lol).
    - low voltage error codes via OBD
    - AC not activating (no click/no cold air)

My best guess is the engine bay "fusebox" that actually contains some smarts, MosFETs, current sensing and other stuff and supplies all those things. Part number 8200306032. Luckily this part is still available for a reasonable price of ~120 bucks and just takes two weeks shipping for some reason.

We are now approaching ~6k spent to keep it running. But now everything that can fail failed so we should be good, right? RIGHT? Maybe we should've just bought a used EV for 20k...

  27. Taking a break from 3d modelling, to check out how my car is after getting too much water in it yesterday.
    Engine seems ok so far
    Wish me luck!

  31. More problems were uncovered as the deck work continues. The back patio is 2 big concrete slabs. Unfortunately, they weren't connected and one of the slabs is very slowly sliding down the very steep hill. And water has gouged out a trough underneath it, which doesn't help. So how we have to figure out how to prop up and pin the slab. oy vey. #MoneyPit
