"Two types of money. One comes with a chain. One does not."
I hadn't heard the chain metaphor before. It's a good one.

It gets even wilder when people learn that approx. 90% of money creation is not the fiat dollars that the gov't creates, but rather the ones created by bank lending!
That's right; as Prof. Steve Keen says, "Bank lending creates money."
You don't learn that in your college econ 101class (if it's teaching Neoclassical economics, as most are).
So one of the dumbest things done in my lifetime was bank deregulation.

"Wielding the power of #credit, commercial banks get to determine the allocation of investment and therefore determine what gets produced."
Sovereign states can easily "impose rules that limit the quantity of finance that commercial banks can invest in problem sectors."

Government "deficit spending" is the nation-state creating money (out of thin air) and exchanging it.
The payroll tax (FICA) does not fund Social Security or Medicare. Like all other federal agencies, those agencies are funded by dollars created on purpose by the government (using laws from Congress) and placed in their accounts by the Treasury.

Musk talking about ”Magic Money Computers” is like a toddler not understanding how banks and governments have been creating money since ages.

Prof. Steve Keen
Inflation does not correspond with government debt. There is no correlation in the data for US economy over a century. If anything, the correlation is negative.
Where there is a correlation, it’s with private debt and oil prices.
Yet I’ve heard all my life, people on the right go endless on about how government debt creates inflation.
It’s almost as if they were doing it on purpose, hiding the real culprits

@profstevekeen explains how the model Elon Musk and other #governmentspending cutters use to inflict #austerity on us is wrong.
It’s based on false ideas about economy from the middle ages.
For us living in the 21st century, government borrowing to finance the deficit is a sustainable system because of central banks and private banks are constantly creating money.
Boom! Abundance, not scarcity!
Fiat money rocks 🙂
