  2. Contactless card payments are now available on TFI Local Link Mayo’s regular services from 9 February 2026. Passengers can pay single-journey fares using debit and credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. The National #Transport Authority confirmed the rollout following successful pilots in #Cavan and #Monaghan and more recent introductions in #Tipperary, #Laois and #Offaly. Daily and weekly tickets will continue to be sold via the Leap website and the TFI Leap Top-up App, while Leap cards, cash and Free Travel Cards remain valid. The upgrade forms part of a wider programme to modernise fare payment systems across #Ireland, improving accessibility and convenience, particularly for rural and regional communities. Representatives said the change offers passengers greater flexibility and supports more sustainable travel.

  3. The National #Transport Authority has begun a phased rollout of contactless fare payments on TFI Local Link services, starting in #Tipperary on 1 December. Passengers can now use bank cards and mobile wallets for single journeys. The move follows a 2023 pilot in #Cavan and #Monaghan and will extend to all 15 Local Link offices by the end of 2026, covering more than 150 routes and about 4 million trips each year. Leap cards, cash and Free Travel Cards will continue to be accepted, with multi-journey products available through the Leap website and app.
The initiative forms part of a wider plan to modernise fare systems across #Ireland through the Next Generation Ticketing programme, which will introduce an account-based system on all Transport for Ireland services. New validators are due from 2027, with full contactless availability expected in 2028. Ministers said the change will improve accessibility and convenience for rural passengers.

  28. Patrick Kavanagh was born in Inniskeen, Co Monaghan on 21 October 1904. His best-known works include the novel Tarry Flynn, and the poems "On Raglan Road" and "The Great Hunger".

Picture: Patrick Kavanagh in a field with a bucket and a spade over his shoulder.

Edit: I'm advised by @psneeze that it is probably an ordinary spade, not a sleán, that that he's probably off to dig some potatoes rather than turf.
