Quite pleased with my caps/lock lights mod to my #ModelF keyboard rather than the LEDs tucked under the keys hack I had before. 👌 Took the opportunity to mount the solenoid properly in a little 3d printed mount. (And washed all the keycaps)

This is my new #ModelF keyboard; I must admit that part of me still thinks that any layout with less keys than the full are a compromise (they offer a different one shape like Model M), and it is, but here it is historically accurate, and this keyboard is the best!

@simonjust Forking over good money for good quality is not foreign to me, but given that this product is a lot closer to a kickstarter-style project than an established factory production, it feels a little unsafe to throw $500+ after something that could potentially break down and in lack of proper after market support, become a very very very expensive paperweight.
For now, I think I'll wait for the mail man to drag my new Unicomp New #ModelF all the way from Lexington, Kentucky.

So with a repair kit - which seems reasonable since it's a limited production - and shipping, I'm looking at around $550 for a classic #ModelF keyboard from #ModelFLabs. And that's before dealing with import fax and fees. That's a hefty sum for a keyboard, even if it's in a solid metal case and goes CLICK when you poke it. But it's just so damned delicious.

I just ordered the New Model M keyboard from #Unicomp Inc. a couple of day ago, but now I'm thinking I may have jumped the gun. People in the know are saying that the original #IBM Model Ms were developed to cut down on cost compared to the previous #ModelF keyboards. Corners were cut - everything from changing the frame from metal to plastic and simplifying the buckling spring mechanics of the keys, sacrificing durability and losing the "right click sound". Unicomp is churning out Ms on an old production line they took over from #Lexmark and keeping units at around $125. At the other end of the scale, Joe Strandberg of #ModelFLabs has started up a brand new production line for his Model F clones. At $399 it's more than three times the price of the Unicomp New #ModelM, and while I realize it's damned close to religion, I'm also very very intrigued. I'll let you know if this is going to happen.
