On this photo, taken in the early 2000s at #Modane, we see an #SNCF #CC6500 “nez cassés” electric, ready to haul a “super peak” winter holiday service. The train is composed of bi-level commuter cars with high density seating, which “Rhône-Alpes” had borrowed from another region.

Ab 6. Juli gibt es offenbar zum ersten Mal seit zehn Monaten wieder Personenverkehr durch den Mont-Cenis-Tunnel zwischen #Bardonecchia 🇮🇹 und #Modane 🇫🇷. Das #TGV-Zugpaar verkehrt dann zwischen #Milano und Modane.

Der vom Erdrutsch betroffene Abschnitt zwischen Modane und St-Michel-Valloire bleibt aber bis in den Herbst gesperrt (Ersatz mit Bussen).

Die TGV-Verlängerung bleibt aber nur bis Ende August, dann werden Bauarbeiten im Tunnel vorgezogen (1/2).

Had an absolutely WONDERFUL visit to the underground laboratory at #Modane today. Our hosts were so gracious in taking lots of time to discuss ideas and problems and entertain questions. I was particularly excited about discussions of open data and data standards, as well as shield design for their germanium counters.

#Milan 🇮🇹 to #Barcelona 🇪🇸 over night with the #RENFE #SNCF #Trenhotel gauge-changing #Talgo. At midnight the train stops at #Modane 🇫🇷 for a loco change where a French class BB26000 #Sybic takes over. Pictures taken in December 2006.
