After 19 months of closure finally the section #StMichelValloire 🇫🇷 - #Modane will be reopened for TER and TGV trains from 31 March 2025. One day later also the Frecciarossa trains will be reinstated. #Paris 🇫🇷 and #Milano 🇮🇹 are again directly connected by train.

Ab 6. Juli gibt es offenbar zum ersten Mal seit zehn Monaten wieder Personenverkehr durch den Mont-Cenis-Tunnel zwischen #Bardonecchia 🇮🇹 und #Modane 🇫🇷. Das #TGV-Zugpaar verkehrt dann zwischen #Milano und Modane.
Der vom Erdrutsch betroffene Abschnitt zwischen Modane und St-Michel-Valloire bleibt aber bis in den Herbst gesperrt (Ersatz mit Bussen).
Die TGV-Verlängerung bleibt aber nur bis Ende August, dann werden Bauarbeiten im Tunnel vorgezogen (1/2).

Here is the photo taken by our tour leader when we exited the #Modane Underground Laboratory. That is the tunnel highway between us and the tour leader. He then helped us safely cross the highway before we departed back to the surface building.

Had an absolutely WONDERFUL visit to the underground laboratory at #Modane today. Our hosts were so gracious in taking lots of time to discuss ideas and problems and entertain questions. I was particularly excited about discussions of open data and data standards, as well as shield design for their germanium counters.

Really excellent discussions during the first day of the Multidisciplinary Workshop at Laboratoire Souterrain de #Modane. I was particularly obsessed with some of the #underground biology discussions focused on improving sensitivity in studies of the effect of a lack of #radiation on living organisms. I was deeply obsessed with a discussion of #potassium-40 in the growth medium and how or if K-40 can be reduced/removed by a novel process.

Good morning (Europe)! I had a good night’s sleep after quite a lengthy and staged trip to #Modane. I am very excited about the multidisciplinary workshop hosted by Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) today. Modane itself is a beautiful town nestled high in the Alps, and I am excited to see the laboratory, represent @SNOLAB, and learn from colleagues.

The photo is from the last stop before we had to take a bus the rest of the way. Rock slide damaged the tracks beyond this station, but the bus ride was comfy and fast!

Thus it begins! I drove from #Sudbury to #Toronto today to get ready for a 1 week trip to the #Modane Underground Laboratory (LSM) in Modane, France. There is a 2-days workshop there mid-week. I fly from Toronto to Paris via New York, leaving tomorrow morning. I’ll be in Modane Tuesday evening (multiple trains from Paris). I train back to Paris Friday morning, then grab a flight to Toronto via Washington D.C. It will be a short and intense trip.

Pour les personnes bloquées dans le nord de l'#Italie, la SNCF se montre très pessimiste sur la réouverture de la ligne Lyon - Turin - Milan par Chambéry et #Modane.
Probablement aucune réouverture à espérer dans la semaine.
Et toujours aucune solution proposée aux voyageurs 🙄
De notre côté, nous avons fuit en Blablabus depuis Aoste puis TER entre Genève et Lyon.

Mieux vaut passer par la côte d'Azur ou tenter les bus longue distance pour rejoindre Genève, Nice, Bourg Saint Maurice...

#Modane 🇨🇵/ #Bardonecchia 🇮🇹 is a border very hard to cross for Interrailers. There are no regional trains and Interrail reservations for highspeed services are limited (TGV) or not possible (Freccia).
If you weren't successful at getting a reservation/promo ticket, there is a mini-bus shuttling on Mondays to Saturdays between Modane and Bardonecchia through the Fréjus road tunnel. Ticket is 3,40€ and timings are adapted to regional trains to Torino.

#Milan 🇮🇹 to #Barcelona 🇪🇸 over night with the #RENFE #SNCF #Trenhotel gauge-changing #Talgo. At midnight the train stops at #Modane 🇫🇷 for a loco change where a French class BB26000 #Sybic takes over. Pictures taken in December 2006.
