El manga de “Moby Dick” es otro estupendo resumen editado por La otra H, en esta ocasión sobre de la obra de Herman Melville, una de las más famosas de la literatura estadounidense. El capitán Ahab, obsesionado con la ballena blanca bautizada como Moby Dick, quiere darle muerte desde que le arrancó una pierna. Ismael es un joven con deseos de embarcarse en el océano que termina enrolándose en el Pequod, el barco de Ahab. Allí compartirá aventuras y destino con Starbuck, el primer oficial, un hombre piadoso que conserva el juicio en nombre del capitán y Queequeg, un arponero de primera categoría procedente de los mares del sur. La lucha entre la naturaleza y el hombre y el bien y el mal llega al punto de ignorar el peligro para perecer bajo las aguas del orgullo.

Vielleicht haben Sie zuletzt die Rettungsaktion von Buckelwal #Timmy in der Ostsee mitverfolgt; es kommt immer mal wieder vor, dass Wale an Küsten stranden oder sich in Flüsse verirren. Am 18. Mai 1966, tauchte im Rhein bei Duisburg ein weißer Wal auf. Der damalige Duisburger Zoodirektor wollte den Meeressäuger fangen, um eine neue Attraktion für seinen Tierpark zu haben.

Moby-Dick has weird pacing! Sometimes I find myself reading non-stop very fluidly and other times I struggle hard to finish a single chapter.
I mean, you can have several consecutive chapters with two/three pages each and suddenly you get hit by a 20 page long chapter with a secondary story or a technical sideline (like that awful chapter of weird whale typology)

I'm counting the days when we can successfully communicate with sperm whales 🐳. We will finally be able to apologise for almost making them extinct because of our thirst for money and "progress".
And we could tell them one of the greatest books ever written by our civilization is about them! 😍

Big ships, bigger beasts… but the biggest stories are the ones with ideas deep enough to match the water.

Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" is one of the most famous books ever, probably, and while it was mentioned in many places, I never took interest in it. This all changed when I started following @mobydick, and from the quotes, I could clearly see the explicitly superb language; and that's with not even complete sentences sometimes. Then, I noticed that I can buy the whole thing for 7 euros; and so I did.
And this thread will be about what followed.

Well, I've now heard Moby Dick. If I wasn't interested in 19th century whaling, then I wouldn't have continued it for much long, but even then I may have preferred an abridged version; I found myself repeatedly saying "Get to the point."
Enjoyed it some, but I don't recommend it tbh.
