My new life goal is to resurrect Herman Melville just to explain to him that whales are hoofed mammals. Gonna resurrect an ambulocetus while I'm at it. #mobydick

"Look at me, I'm Herman Melville, writing before the Origin of Species was released, so I'm going to write some absolute balderdash on whale biology. Also Right Whales suck." #mobydick

Names related with novels or movies (characters, places,...) in the form of a sequence.
It started during my PhD: my group had a computer name scheme which I understood was Old Testament characters. I was reading #MobyDick. I asked the IT officer if #Ahab qualified, featured in both.
after it had travelled its hectic way to after-sales and "disappeared" for a while, I named my personal laptop #Gulliver ...and as a postdoc, name scheme was birds, and I was allotted... #Swift !

How can you tell if a book is abridged? I got a used copy of Moby Dick, and it’s only 420 pages long. A lot of other editions are twice that.
It is 6x9 in, so bigger pages a paperback. Great Books of the Western World, Encyclopædia Britannica, University of Chicago, 1952.
Which I’m realizing was 101 years after the original was published.
Anyway, I decided to finally tackle this classic because my father read it recently and I want something to talk about next time I see him.

Herman Melville, writer of the epic novel 'Moby Dick' was born on this day in 1819.
The book about the chase of a mythical white whale is not just about whaling. The book is also about a multi cultural society and gender equallity, ecology and an energy crisis and a maniacal leader who is blinded by his own madness.#mobydick #hermanmelville
