Anyone having trouble with unexpectedly high mobile data? Using #Fairphone3 and android with #PhoneCoop in UK and about to switch to #FP6 and #Murena . I have very poor mobile signal at home and work so use very little data unless I'm away from home. Got a warning saying I'd used 15GB today ..which seems extremely unlikely with data turned off and no mobile signal. I suspect nasty Google added more snooping after the last update but 15GB seems impossibly high. Any thoughts masto folks? #MobileData #HighDataUsage #Google #Android

Right now I'm suffering with my phone's data plan on Google Fi because somehow I burned through like 15 gigs of data in a day and hit a limit where they stop charging me for data but they throttle my connection.

The culprit appears to be Firefox, and I think what happened is there was a pop-up asking me to try Mozilla VPN (which I now know is a bad idea because it's rebranded Mullvad), I said sure, and it must have downloaded a lot of VPN stuff.

i'm gonna do a little experiment today. I will leave my phone off Wi-Fi for the whole day to see how much data i use.
I have a Unlimited plan since the beginning of this year, and i get 20GB/Day of which i can fill up again with 2GB at the time via their app. (I have Vodafone)

But when i'm at home, i'm on Wi-Fi anyways, so that does not count my dataplan so a lot goes actually to "waste".

Maybe i'm going to do this the whole week, maybe only today. I'm curious on how many data i actually use with it.

I even found a app that measures your data, and its FOSS. Awesome!

I will report back once i have the data.

Today, signing into the Wi-Fi network in Walmart required receiving a 6-digit code through email for "security". Receiving this email before it expires after 15 minutes requires a cellular subscription. If they're requiring guest Wi-Fi users to already have cellular data, why even offer guest Wi-Fi?

It's incredible to see how much mobile plans have improved over the past 7 years! Back then, I was paying €15/month for a 2-year contract that included 3 GB of data. Today, I'm only paying €7.50/month for a 2-year contract with 15 GB of data. Not only is the price significantly lower, but the data speeds have also increased dramatically. Half the price for five times the data and improved performance – that's truly impressive.
