Halftime at the Loons game against LAFC in St. Paul, down 1-nil, still time to even it up. #mnufc

Ngl, I was initially excited, but the James Rodriguez transfer’s looking kinda iffy for us recently 😬
-
James is here to work, to win, and to give it his all. More from his arrival in Minnesota.

I’m sad that we lost, but we had a good run. Let’s fucking run it back next year, and WIN THIS SHIT. LETS GO LOONS!!!! #mnufc #MLS #MastodonFC #loons #MLSCupPlayoffs

The second part of the Minnesota Star Tribune #MNUFC season-opening package: five questions facing the Loons as they try to repeat - and build on - their success from last year.

It's Year 2 for #MNUFC manager Eric Ramsay, and he's growing into not only being a head coach, but his role as the public face of the franchise.
I got a chance to sit down with the manager and find out what motivates him - and how long he might care to stay in Minnesota:

Bongokuhle Hlongwane is a wingback, but also a striker. Maybe we should just call his position "the Frimpong."
For the Minnesota Star Tribune, a look at how #MNUFC is using Hlongwane in the preseason. Plus: half a game of 4-4-2, visa problems, and Morris Duggan:

#MNUFC notebook, for the Minnesota Star Tribune:
* The specter of 2026 looms over 2025, for players who might go to the World Cup
* Notes from the Loons 2-1 preseason loss to LA
* Eric Ramsay thinks there's a competition at backup GK -
#MNUFC notebook: Owen Gene is officially a Loon, and the Leagues Cup schedule is (finally) out:

#MNUFC is working on playing with two strikers this preseason, in the hopes of increasing the team's tactical flexibility.
Sunday, it led to six goals, including two from each striker, so you'd have to say it's going well.
For the Minnesota Star Tribune,, a look at what the Loons hope to get out of their final preseason trip:
-
#MNUFC now has a South Korean duo - the first time in MLS history that any team has had two South Korean players at one time.
For the Minnesota Star Tribune,, a chance to talk to the pair for the first time:

Hassani Dotson may have put out a trade request- but as far as Khaled El-Ahmad is concerned, that doesn’t mean the #MNUFC midfielder wants out.

Nicolás Romero wasn’t in #MNUFC training this morning, as he was off working on getting his visa.
Matúš Kmeť did not train, but I saw him in the building this morning…
DJ Taylor and Kipp Keller are dealing with hamstring issues that have carried over from last year, and did not fully train.
-
#MNUFC got a few days off, so they started training today doing the beep test again… which seems punitive, honestly.
Today’s winner: Morris Duggan (Britton Fischer was training with MNUFC2 and unable to defend his title.)
Don’t accuse Hassani Dotson of a lack of dedication: he was third.
-
#MNUFC analysis: Hassani Dotson wants out - and it’s hard on everybody.

"I think it will help all the parties."
#MNUFC has officially transferred Teemu Pukki to HJK - where, among other things, he'll get to be Dad again.
It didn't work in Minnesota out like Pukki planned. Hear from the man himself about why he's ready to go home:
-
#MNUFC feels like the squad is a bit light in the center - and they're working on changing that.
For the Minnesota Star Tribune: the players that the Loons are negotiating with, and where they might fit in.
(hat tip to Tom "Scoops" Bogert, who published the first sourced American report on this.)

Story for the Minnesota Star Tribune: #MNUFC is close to acquiring 21-year-old center back Nicolás Romero from Atlético Tucumán, according to a source.

One week of training is in the books for #MNUFC, and the Loons are just trying to stay warm.
They head to Santa Barbara next week for training, but they're slowly setting up the roster for the season - including two players that appear to be on their way out.
For the Minnesota Star Tribune:
-
#MNUFC number changes for 2025:
- Sang Bin Jeong will wear #7
- Alec Smir is switching to #1
- Kipp Keller will be #24
- Darius Randell will now be #98Joaquín Pereyra still has #26 for now, but I know he was at least thinking about taking #10, at least when he arrived last year.
-
Setting up #MNUFC ‘s return to training- which, impossibly, already starts Monday.
- Wil Trapp is officially back in the fold
- Loons closing in on an important extension
