Woohoo! Power's back on, and more importantly heating... it's chilly out there, and in here, but not for much longer on the latter 🙂

Memphis power outage! I'm in South #Memphis, and will be showing in the dark 🙈
According to the map https://outagemap.mlgw.org/OutageSummary.php downtown is out too, but I haven't checked. The map shows a few other areas out too, but #MLGW often under reports outages in this page.

#MLGW & #TVA have announced a program to help subsidize the cost of small businesses converting to #LED lighting. Apparently they'll cover up to 70%.

Ah the sound of screaming UPSs and finally, the silence of a full power failure in #Memphis ... I said SILENCE! Damned clock. Where's my hammer?
What? Failed to send? ... right no WiFi. Share to QR code, scan, paste and post from device with cell service 😋

May 5 - 11 is Drinking Water Week and a great time to recognize the dedicated men and women who keep our drinking water clean, safe and delivered on time, every time. Thank you for everything you do! #DrinkingWaterWeek @awwa #MLGW @MLGW

@ampersine it is not at all clear from some of the #MLGW alerts, but the reason nothing had been detected is because they don't even start to test until _after_ the problems have been fixed and the pressure returns to >20 PSI. See https://www.mlgw.com/news/News11924bwadcisory just before the last pair of bullet points
It's also funny that the alert comes to us from the future: January 26, 2024 😏

@WarnerCrocker sorry to hear that. I hope #MLGW gets it fixed soon. 🤞

> MLGW: #Memphis Water pressure returning to normal
"#MLGW said they have finally fixed enough water mains to bring the water back to normal pressure, one step closer to getting rid of the boil water advisory. Things could be back to normal as soon as Friday. [MLGW] said the next step is sampling the water supply. Each sample takes 18 hours to process, in order to check for bacteria such as E. Coli. As long as the sample comes back clear, the water is safe to use."

> #MLGW says water issues will continue until end of the week
"While tens of thousands now have power after finding themselves in the dark from a round of rolling blackouts, they now have to boil water under a new water advisory and may have to do so until the end of the week." #Memphis

@ampersine make sure you boil your water! #MLGW issued a boil water notice yesterday https://www.mlgw.com/news/MLGW_issues_updated_precautionary_boil_water_advisory.
Naturally the advanced alert text on the matter only arrived this morning just after 10:00
> (MLGW) Boil water advisory for MLGW water customers. (Excludes Germantown, Bartlett and Collierville) mlgw.com/news STOP to end

Me: God damn, I flush the terlet and it takes like 5 minutes to refill
#MLGW: Oh yeah, about that

Summary of #Memphis #MLGW noon presser:
- At 5:06AM, TVA ordered the anticipated 5% cut
- At 5:16AM, TVA ordered increase to a 10% cut
- The area plan MLGW communicated last night was for the 5% cut, so additional areas not on the list lost power
- 226,000 customers lost power due to intentional blackout
- ~20% of circuits that were shut down failed to reclose remotely, so crews are having to go on-site for manual resets. This is why "30 minute" blackouts have lasted hours in some areas
-
And now #MLGW is posting information about rolling blackouts with nothing but images with no alt text. These are images of ... press releases. Pictures of plain text. I just don't understand.
-
@ampersine yay! The power is back on... Well, here in #Memphis downtown at least. Now I'm on a yellow section of the https://outagemap.mlgw.org/OutageSummary.php
So, I guess it was a case of #MLGW implements Step 50 curtailment

@ampersine now I have an actual power outage here in the South end of downtown #Memphis. There was no text message from #MLGW, so I don't know if it is a planned #blackout or a failure though.
Gotta go turn off all the stuff hooked up to bleeping UPS's now to preserve the batteries... and check the #MLGW web site to see if it's a planned 30 minute #blackout or something that might last longer.
This time I got all my network equipment on UPS, so my internet access still works 😀

I've lived in #Memphis nearly 40 years and I've never seen anything like this!
> Rolling blackouts coming due to TVA power supply situation
"Memphis Light, Gas and Water #MLGW said it will begin implementing rolling #blackouts at 11:30 a.m. Friday to conserve power, the utility says.
Service will be interrupted up to 30 minutes, and customers may experience outages up to two times a day. Critical services such as water plants, hospitals and airports will be exempted."
