Yes, I understand that, and on principles alone no public official should accept the offers, but it doesn’t go to answer my questions, and I have no way of answering them myself. Only frank and truthful conversations with MLAs will get us those answers.Maybe a Bill should be introduced to ban such ‘gifts’.

I agree with you. I am wondering though, how much ‘expectations’ of the ‘office’ of MLAs Is playing into this. Is it an encrusted ‘convention’ of the system which is imposed on members (by one means or another, however repugnant it might be)? Would MLAs in refusing membership be disadvantaged is some official way compared to other MLAs in the conduct of ACT business?Things to consider whilst expressing anger at the hypocrisy it reveals in some MLAs.

The Supreme Court today ruled that lawmakers cannot claim immunity from prosecution in bribery cases.
