#NativeAmericaCalling: Residents brace for #Medicaid and #FoodAssistance cuts
Tuesday, July 8, 2025"The Congressional Budget Office estimates the spending bill just signed by President Donald Trump will increase the number of people without #HealthInsurance by 16 million over the next ten years.
"The $1.1 trillion cuts to Medicaid will also affect #NativeAmericans who rely on it to pay for health care through the #IndianHealthService and threatens #RuralHospitals with a high rate of Medicaid-dependent patients. The new spending plan also substantially reduces the number of people who will collect food assistance through the federal government.
"Tune in to get insights on what these numbers mean for Native Americans who disproportionately rely on these two federal government programs.
"Also, find out about the significance of the new Indigenous head of #Mexico’s #SupremeCourt. #HugoAguilarOrtiz (#Mixtec) took office on June 1 following judicial elections in Mexico."

For 1,500 years, Mexico’s Mixtec people have extracted ink from the rare purpura snail to dye yarn. But they fear the species – and their rich tradition – may soon be lost for ever

Mixtec Skull returns to Mexico | The skull was in the collection of the Wereldmuseum in Leiden and was purchased in the 1960s. The skull is probably of Mixtec origin and is inlaid with mosaic stones.
Although both the skull and the stones are of an older date, research shows that the glue used is from the 20th century. This makes the skull and the mosaic stones a recent composition

For more than 3000 years, the Mesoamerican culture area was witness to the rise (and fall) of more than eight great civilizations: Olmec, Maya, “Totonac," Teotihuacan, Zapotec, Mixtec, Toltec, and Aztec. The "Golden Age," or Classic Period, of these civilizations occurred between AD 150 and AD 900, but our interest here, will extend back in time to the very earliest Mesoamerican cultures, as well. #Mesoamerica #Olmec #Maya #Totonac #Teotihuacan #Zapotec #Mixtec #Toltec #Aztec
