And when this happens, it can be a huge problem. Someone else's bad credit can cost you higher interest rates, lost loans, even lost job opportunities.

But real life doesn't work like that. If there's someone else out there with a name like yours, whether it's "John Smith" or "Michael Wasylik" (I know of at least three others, and only one is related) you might get mixed up with each other sometimes. And you can't make them change their name.
