  1. New paper from Burroughs and McAinsh groups:

Bayesian data driven modelling of kinetochore dynamics: Space-time organisation of the human metaphase plate

  2. Meet Alisa Piekny, Professor in the Department of Biology at Concordia University and Associate Dean of Research & Infrastructure at the School of Health. Her lab studies cell division; research that guides discovery of new cancer drugs, delivery, and diagnosis tools with collaborators in Chemistry and Engineering.

  3. I talked to Daniel Booth about work on cell division coming from his lab, with three preprints coming out in time for #biologists100. Check out the interview and then read the preprints on chromosome coating, with some beautiful imaging! (3/5)

  6. How do cells respond to defects in nuclear reassembly after #mitosis? This study in #Drosophila shows that damaged cells are either removed by #apoptosis or activate a p53-dependent #CellCycle checkpoint to maintain tissue integrity #PLOSBiology plos.io/3AA4g4c

  7. I’ve finished my spring #mitosis #embroidery! Next is to clean up all four seasonal versions but that will have to wait until I have the energy to shower more regularly. #SciArt

  8. #WIPWednesday • I’m still recovering from a liver infection so have been stitching a lot. I finished my summer #mitosis #embroidery, am on the final section of the spring version, and started making a pattern for my next project. #SciArt

  9. #WIPWednesday • Very close to done my #SciArt #mitosis #embroidery! I’m having a liver flare so I’ve gotten lots of stitching done and will likely start on the spring version tomorrow.

  10. #WIPWednesday • I’m on the last section of my summer #mitosis #embroidery so I really need to set up the spring one! I had a look through my thread stash and I definitely need to buy some other colours. #SciArt

  11. #WIPWednesday • I finished the winter night #mitosis #embroidery on Monday except for signing (I need to buy some white thread) and have gotten a good start on the summer version. #SciArt

  12. #WIPWednesday • I’m very close to finishing this winter #SciArt #mitosis #embroidery! Another hour or so of stitching and then I’ll start on the summer one.

  13. PhD student in Biochemistry - Piano lab

    University of Cologne

Seeking a motivated PhD student interested in the characterization of protein functions and structures during cell division!

  14. #WIPWednesday • On to the final section of the cytoplasm on this winter #SciArt #mitosis #embroidery now! Next I’ll start stitching the summer one and set up the spring one which may require buying some new colours of thread.

  15. #WIPWednesday • I’m already on the final colour in my winter night #mitosis #embroidery sampler. This is why I started making bigger pieces, so I don’t have to set up a new piece every couple weeks! #SciArt

  16. #WIPWednesday • I’m done stitching my vagus nerve piece and will finish my seasonal mitosis sampler set next. These are much smaller pieces than my usual! This one is “winter night”.

  17. Two preprints in one day? Yes, indeed!

James and Selena lead this wonderful paper showing
    1) the structural details of the interaction between TACC3 and ch-TOG
    2) how Affimers can be used to compete this interaction
    3) that inhibiting the interaction in live cells has an unexpected effect - PCM fragmentation.

Fun collaboration between our lab and many others including Mark Pfuhl's, Richard Bayliss’s groups and others at Leeds!
