We are deeply saddened to report that Mitchell County lost 5 citizens directly due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, with 2 additional losses from storm-related incidents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by these tragic events.
At this time, one active missing persons case remains, and efforts are ongoing to locate them. However, all children in Mitchell County have been accounted for.

If your private road or bridge has been damaged, we also need to take inventory even if you have relocated. Please also call the VRC with name, location, contact number, and extent of damage.

From Mitchell County NC Government on FB: An exciting new resource is now open! The Volunteer Reception Center is open at the Senior Center. This program matches volunteers with people who need assistance.
If you need assistance: Contact the center and let them know what type of assistance you need. For example, you need a tree cut out of your driveway.
If you want to volunteer your help: Contact the center and let them know what skills and equipment you have that you can offer to help. For example, you have chainsaws and a wood splitter.

Good Morning, Mitchell County! Here is a resource for prescriptions if you are uninsured.
The Emergency Prescription Assistance Program, or EPAP, helps uninsured people after disasters to be sure they still have the medicines and medical equipment they normally use to stay healthy. The program pays for prescription medications, specific medical supplies, vaccines, and certain medical equipment. The program provides a 30-day supply of covered drugs and medical supplies that can be renewed every 30 days for as long as EPAP is active. Many pharmacies in the county are participating.

CLINICS: Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP) clinics are open 10 a.m. to noon to write prescriptions at: Spruce Pine (Grassy Creek), Bakersville, Burnsville, & Celo.
SHELTER: A doctor & nurse are visiting the shelter at Mitchell High daily to check on people & write prescriptions.
HEALTH DEPT: Mitchell Co Health Dept will open MON 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. providing treatment of minor issues (colds, sore throat, etc.), medicine refills, & vaccines.
DIALYSIS: Davita Dialysis is open 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
OXYGEN: If you use oxygen, limited tank exchanges are available at Mitchell HS & the Bakersville & Spruce Pine Fire dept.

PHARMACIES: The following pharmacies are open: Roan Mountain Pharmacy, Hospital Drive, Walmart, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital Pharmacy, and the Prescription Pad. Please have your medication bottle(s), date of birth, and address when you go to the pharmacy.
HOSPITAL: The hospital is open. Water and sewer are still an issue, but they are functioning.
