Misumène variable sur pétales rouges ou thomise variable ou araignée-crabe. Capable de changer de couleur du blanc au jaune voire vert suivant son environnement et de divertir les petits enfants aimant les araignées. #spider #araignées #misumenavatia (photo de mayer.cathy)

Gorgeous yellow #spider on a #dandelion #seedhead. Probably a Misumena vatia, crab spider - not sure. He (she?) was perfectly aware of me and not so impressed with the attention.

For all the aspects of summer that I dislike, that disagree with my brain, I will also admit that it's more than just an inescapable, uncomfortable countdown to glorious autumn. For one thing, it's when various #spiders gradually become more evident outside - orb weavers, jumping spiders, crab spiders, grass spiders, funnel weavers - and each day includes the ritual of inspecting flowers around the garden in hopes of spotting #MisumenaVatia, the flower crab spider. Today I found one and she is exquisite.

While I understand how these beauties find their flowers (mostly by scent), the fact that these elegant, camouflaged spooders manage to locate, climb (or balloon onto), and take up residence inside flowers like so many tiny, eight-legged, predatory Thumbelinas, always feels like magic to me.
