Climate change extinctions
"We can expect, with increased certainty, that rising temperatures will lead to an increasing number of extinctions, with the highest emission scenario leading to extinction of nearly a third of the Earth’s species, especially those from particular vulnerable taxa or regions." — Sacha Vignieri
"...Species inhabiting South America, Australia, and New Zealand face the greatest threats."
"Besides limiting greenhouse gases, pinpointing which species to protect first will be critical for preserving biodiversity until anthropogenic climate change is halted and reversed."

#Cognitive dissonance
Individuals might not notice inconsistencies between their stated beliefs and their actions, creating a #mismatch between how they perceive themselves (e.g., libertarian and left-leaning) and their stances on specific policies (e.g., favoring #authoritarian leaders or anti-migrant laws). -

CW: Religion, straight x gay marriage
I was devout LDS until my early 40s. The church has always opposed "gay marriage". My wife (in my early 30s to early 50s) and I had conversations about how much gay marriage was already in the church. We were in one--i.e., she was gay, as it turns out. We knew others in gay marriages, as well. Sure, at least one of the people in each such marriage was apparently straight, but there were a lot of gay/queer/trans/other-LGBTQIA+ people in Mormon marriages. Maybe more than in the less-conservative population, IDK.
Which the church didn't do anything at all to deter. In fact, the policies + culture aggressively encouraged it. GayIsBad + NobodyIsReallyGay + GetMarriedNoMatterWhat = lots of closeted queer folks.
Perhaps obviously by this point in this long post, that didn't work out and there were 15+ years of guilt, remorse, anguish, and assorted suffering all around. Digging out of that has taken half our adult lives so far. This has been the dark matter influencing our relationships with friends and family (mine still devout LDS), our work productivity (we're both uni profs), our scholarly productivity or lack thereof, and even our ability to do the mundane like get our bills paid on time and make sure the car doesn't die from lack of maintenance.
We have done everything we can to prevent this all from affecting our parenting, and our 13 y/o is amazing, so I hope we've kept their reasons-for-therapy-at-age-25 to a minimum.
I guess TL;DR: gay/queer marriage is common in conservative, anti-LGBTQ American Christian groups, just not the healthy kind.
(and now it's almost 7 a.m. and time to get aforementioned kid to the bus stop)

Alignment hijinks
Print shop pro tip: you generally *never* want to pre-impose your job. Always best to give the shop a PDF of one item per page and let us do the imposition.
With apologies to the customer who did this, it wasn't caught before printing, and there's simply zero time available to correct and re-print.

Opinion: Reply Guys are often #trolls, though their argument style is intended to copy a non-troll style.
The argument style comes, I think, from forums in which people (mostly men) discuss or argue about technical or scientific topics.
Reply Guy trolls are mimicking someone else's "honest engagement" cultural norms in an attempt to infiltrate conversations where they have no intention of engaging honestly. When they drop into conversations where those cultural norms dominate (e.g., much of #reddit circa 2012) it's harder to recognize what they are doing. When they comment in other forums they stand out like a sore thumb.
