  1. Here's a story that just popped back into my head for no reason. Had a disagreement over christmas dinner with my sisters (now ex) boyfriend over how #gender works. Next time I met him I deliberately misgendered him. He was damn quick to correct me. Aparently preferred #pronouns aren' a thing right up to the moment when you #misgender a cis-het white dude.

  2. Oddly many #indigenous #languages do not have gendered #pronouns and are highly likely to #misgender you on accident because its not an important thing to them. My partner has a friend in the Philippines who can't get her head wrapped around the pronoun discussion and why its such a culture war here. Many indigenous folks are now gendering themselves as they/he or they/them just as a protest against colonizer forced gendered pronouns.

  3. Free #misgender burn for you.

Trans friend was misgendered (deep South, very red area) deliberately by a restaurant staffer asking how her meal was.

My contribution: "Far better than your manners."

With misgender + infantilizing enhancement: "Far better than your manners, young man."

(South prides itself on its manners, so that burn may not work as well in, say, NYC.)

  4. @ErictheCerise While agree that accidental pronoun misuse does happen with no evil intention, there *absolutely* are people who misuse pronouns deliberately because they ideologically reject the #gender identity of #trans people. You know, transphobes.

People like Ben Shapiro do it all the time and it's obvious they do it on purpose.

  5. My thoughts on #trans and #enby #pronouns:

I sometimes hear #cis folks complaining that they can't remember everyone's pronouns, that they feel it's unfair to have such a "burden" put on them, and that they're scared of being #canceled if they accidentally #misgender someone.

I won't deny that navigating these uncharted waters is often confusing, awkward, and overwhelming. I've definitely made a few errors over the years that still make me cringe to this day. But even if I added up all of the discomfort I've experienced on my #ally journey so far, it wouldn't even come close to the discomfort felt by trans and #nonbinary folks nearly every second of every day.

I'd much rather that it be me having a little difficulty remembering to use people's pronouns than them having difficulty simply living their own authentic lives.

I can #TakeOneForTheTeam and feel a little uncomfortable for a few seconds every once in a while if it helps give them the confidence to be themselves. ⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️

  6. Huge shoutout to all the doctors and nurses at the hospital who didn’t #misgender me once in the three days I was there. #Transgender

  7. Montana bill would let students misgender classmates

Montana schools would not be able to punish students who purposely misgender or deadname their transgender peers under a Republican-backed legislative proposal that opponents argue will increase bullying of children who are already struggling for acceptance.

The proposal, co-sponsored by more than two dozen GOP lawmakers, would declare that it’s not discrimination to use a transgender classmate’s legal name or refer to them by their birth gender. Schools would be prevented from adopting policies to punish students who do so.

  8. It's obvious, given #Rowling's penchant for naming characters with ham-fisted puns, that she intended "Sirona Ryan" as a cryptic, backhanded way to #misgender a trans woman (first, for Sirona sounding like "sir", second for the surname sounding like a man's name).

This is an extremely cynical way to troll the trans-rights boycott of her video game. I'm sure we'll never hear the end of people claiming Rowling and #HogwartsLegacy are really inclusive now, since they "even have a trans character"

  9. CW: cw: harassment (bonus: trans joy)

everyone in my life accepts that I'm a woman now. my parents, my sister, my partner, my workplace. I work from home and almost never have to worry about people who might #misgender or mistreat me. I love my #trans life.

but I still get #transphobic slurs shouted at me from cars in Walmart parking lots. lots of public places simply aren't safe for gender diverse people. going grocery shopping is an activity where I could get harassed or attacked.

  10. I would at least have a delicious aroma and be irresistible to eat.
