omg I made it, the wig for Faith Connors is close enough to done to wear it at Gamescom, so I'll be Faith Connors who needs to see a hair stylist (ok admittedly, that's canon) and did something bad to her shoes at Gamescom on Saturday and Sunday :)

Made one of six pocket lids for the runner bag. For the first time ever, I willingly decided to sew something by hand even though I didn't have to. I am SO SLOW though. Cut the pleather fabric for the rest, need to "steam" it (hang it in the bathroom while I shower).

Now I'll learn how to make a button hole with my sewing machine just because I am curious. Tomorrow, I'll test walk Faith's shoes again. Cross your fingers that the paint will stick this time!

Alright folks, photo shooting on Sunday, gotta get some things done. Plan for today is to prepare the last two pockets for the runner bag and hopefully start hand-sewing them (fix corners, attach to big bag). I also want to fix the left side of the wig, where I apparently missed part of the hair. Then in coworking tomorrow I want to finish the wig. If that works out, I'll have two evenings and all of saturday for all the hand-sewing and painting the shoes. I'm optimistic!

Progress! Four of six small pockets for the runner bag are prepared (cut, folded and top-stitched for edge stiffness). Will cut the remaining two tonight and make a pattern for the lids. Still unsure what material to use for the lids though, also, the largest part of the work besides planning is still left, as all remaining seams need to be done by hand. This will go with the Faith Connors cosplay.

Figured out I made a mistake last time I worked on Faith's wig. For some reason, probably because I tied away too much hair, I did not finish one of the sides. To avoid making another mistake, I'll have dinner now... then figure out if there's a chance to get it fixed today.

Figured I won't get the runner bag done until Dokomi. Well, it was always a little optimistic, and the actual deadline is a photoshooting two weeks later. Sewing just always takes forever. I'll instead convert an old yellow t-shirt into a bag so I can at least carry my camera and water etc around. Fingers crossed I get the wig done tomorrow as planned.

Will I meet any of you at Dokomi on Friday or in the park on Saturday?

Four months after Crafting Com (eeeek only 8 months until next time!), I picked up the wig for Faith Connors again. With help from @brezeldrache to put on the wig and check against artwork multiple times, I now got the sides done and I think they turned out pretty good. I also like the undercut on the back of the head I did at Crafting Com. Looks like I'll finish the wig until Dokomi! That's the first wig I'll have done myself! Yay!

Faith's runner bag is finally coming along! I really want to get it done until Dokomi. Wig work is planned for this week, too. If I manage to finish both, I'll have enough parts to cosplay Faith at Dokomi (wig, top, pants, shoes, tattoo, bag). Swing bag, vest and MagRope will be added later. At least that's the plan.

The gamepad is charging for Lightning Returns later, the 3D printer is printing a part for the portal gun and I am making a paper mock-up for Faith's runner bag because I have exactly the amount of material I need which is nice because no leftovers of weird plastic material but also stressful because all mistakes will be visible.

Mirror's Edge has very unique specific vibe that I think 2 fails to recreate.
Not only is the city you're running through beautiful and clean, but it's almost completely empty, vast office complexes and infrastructure unused by anyone.

It's really cool, like the hallways of Portal but it's an entire city.

I'm pretty sure it's unintentional too, just a limitation of cpu power at the time to populate the world with random NPCs, the only other people you meet are like 4 other runners, and sparse police who are only there to get you specifically.
There are distant NPCs you can see on the street but they're so far away it feels like a different world.

Following on from previous toots, I had a sudden urge to dig out this banger from #Chvrches - Warning Call

Whilst #MirrorsEdge continues to have a cult following, it's a shame it didn't catch on as well as it should have.

The soundtrack for both games were bangers though. Mostly from Solar Fields, but with the addition of the vocal talents of Lisa Miskovsky (Still Alive) and Chvrches (Warning Call)

Wanted to show my 13yo where the parkour in #Titanfall 2 comes from, so I dug out #MirrorsEdge. I passed it by at the time, so it was a joyful, thrilling first playthrough for both of us. I'm lucky that he still engages curiously with his crazy Dad's quirky old #videogames. We discovered the game leans into themes of authoritarian overreach, protest, corruption, and illegal over-policing of dissent. As a result, in the game, acab, who you can disarm & disable, but your best defence is to run...

I finished streaming Mirror's Edge and had 12 deaths which isn't that bad given that I hadn't played the game in over a year. Most of them were like in bunches at certain areas, so overall, I did most of the game without dying, including all of the annoying death rooms in The Shard at the end which I'm pretty proud of. In fact, I don't think I died in the Shard?

Continuing work on Faith's shoes. Sometimes adhesive tape does not rip off the acrylic paint I'm replacing with leather paint. (My) acrylic paint does not dissolve in alcohol, but I had mineral spirit (Terpentinersatz) and tried that. It works. That will be a messy and slow process though... glad most of the paint comes off easily. And then finally painting the shoes again, this time with paint that stays on :)

This weekend, I'll be attending Crafting Com in Dresden with @brezeldrache! It's said to be very focused on crafting, so instead of a large artist and merchant area, there are areas for the different crafts.

Disassembled the runner bag and made a paper template / prototype for the outer pockets. Searched my stuff for matching buckles and materials for the pocket lids. Satisfying results! Sewing and photos tomorrow.
I also analyzed the swing bag, which is Faith's main bag (the runner bag is more like a quest item). I have matching straps, zippers and buckles already and will make a template for the pockets later just like I did for the runner bag. Good progress :)

I've been pretty unfocused for a few weeks, but it's better now and while I wasn't necessarily less productive, I like me some proper To Do lists and priorities.

I want to take Faith to LBM, which is mid March. I won't get everything done, but want to finish runner bag, wig, MagRope and either vest or sling bag. I hope to get help with the wig at Crafting Com.
Meanwhile it would make sense to experiment with boot covers. I also still have two bags to finish for Lightning.
