@linguacelta @twsh Not to side with the transhumanism, but many humans have allowed themselves to be programmed by corrupt minds. Arn’t #LLM a continuation of expanding that project; IP theft and the enumerative and ampliation of populist dogma so raising the risks of a technological Apocalypse; driven by greed and fear? I.e. #MirrorLife

Well, this is chilling. Just listening to this podcast on #MirrorLife…but scientists at the heart of the research are sounding the warning, tho we’ve heard that wail before. I hope we will be more progressive in making daily living better & sustainable rather than perpetually be too progressive in things we neither understand nor can control or anticipate to ostensibly make life better. They know it is a risk that could be catastrophic. They are taking this seriously.

The research and development of “mirror life” and its potential to destroy regular (ie. all) life on Earth scares me a LOT more than the current “Skynet” potential of AI/LLMs.

#FYI #mirrorlife #research #science #chirallife
(If it is true that we are at least ten years away from creating chiral life, I don't think it can be a threat. In five to ten years the climate breakdown, extreme weather and food shortages worldwide will have depleted resources for such research. But this is interesting and an excellent explanation video anyway.)

So even if principled scientists stop their research, there will be bad actors (and we know there are plenty of those out there) who will continue with theirs regardless of the risks. #mirrorlife

"Here, we draw on an in-depth analysis of current technical barriers, how they might be eroded by technological progress, and what we deem to be unprecedented and largely overlooked risks (1). We call for broader discussion among the global research community, policy-makers, research funders, industry, civil society, and the public to chart an appropriate path forward."

This reminds me of #KurtVonnegut’s #Ice9. One slip up could destroy the world.

This reads like the first few chapters of a #MichaelCrichton novel. Wild.
I really wish we (speaking as a US citizen here) had more qualified decision-makers in our government.
Edit - Originally posted this with a link to #TheGuardian, my usual go-to paper. Swapping the post to another source, as I've been informed The Guardian's writers are on strike for unrelated reasons. That said (if you'd like) you can find more info there as well.
