If you run a lot of #Kubernetes containers--and if you're using cloud-native computing, you are--you need to check out #Mirantis's k0rdent #opensource project.

  8. It's really sad to see how #Mirantis completely gave up on #OpenSource. After moving from OpenLens to a very failed attempt at something called Lens Desktop Core they decided to make Lens fully closed source. For all users of Mirantis' remaining Open Source products such as k0s or k0smotron now's the time to rethink that decision. Chances are not too low that both will be abandoned or made closed source anytime soon.

  10. This all makes it so much easier to understand why #DockerHub is littered with massive numbers of stale, insecure images and other than maybe making analytics available to everyone, I don't see any obvious way for how #Docker could make this better without being massively disruptive. It also doesn't seem sustainable for them to carry such an incredible amount of ever-growing technical debt that so much of the internet depends on.

    #Mirantis

  11. One interesting point here is that #DockerHub doesn't give you pull analytics with regular paid tiers (there are two special programs that get it). You can query current amount of pulls with an API call, but if you haven't been doing that all along because you didn't know you needed that, then you don't get that info, so I can see it has a high number of pulls and the last time it was pulled, but I don't know how many unique IPs or regularity.

  12. Mirantis is really doing its best to piss me off with their cold calls. Already on call number 8 in the past 10 days. Time to escalate with formal complaints I suppose. #spammers #mirantis

  14. Mirantis Pushes Security With k0s 1.27, Its New Kubernetes Release - FOSS Force

#Mirantis, the company that bought #Docker #Enterprise in 2019 and several releases later renamed it Mirantis Kubernetes Engine, announced on Thursday the release of k0s 1.27, the company’s own branded (but still open source) version of #Kubernetes.

This new release is compatible with Kubernetes 1.27, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s flagship project’s orchestration system. It includes some improvements and bug fixes as well.

Mostly, however, it pushes #security, which should make it attractive to enterprise customers in this age when enterprise security has become “job one” in the technology arena, via a direct edict from the Biden administration.

“[S]ystem images shipping with k0s 1.27 come with zero…known vulnerabilities,” Mirantis VP, Miska Kaipiainen added. “We have daily scanning in place which lets us keep track of vulnerabilities as they pop up, and mitigate them super-quickly.”

This new Kubernetes distribution isn’t only about security. There are improvements to simplify the installation and management of Kubernetes clusters, which include support for containerd plug-ins to simplify running WASM and gVisor container sandboxes, making it easier to extend clusters with additional container runtimes.
