Как превратить крик души в работающую утилиту и попасть в официальную ArchWiki? Мне 17 лет, и мне просто надоело тянуть HDMI-кабель от ноутбука к телевизору через всю комнату. В этой статье я расскажу, как написал свой стример экрана FluxCast на Python, с какими багами Smart TV пришлось столкнуться и как устроен «слепой» дебаг проприетарного железа по логам пользователей со всего мира.

It always gives me joy when a package/app I'm looking for is available on #Flathub, without me needing to even install em from the Arch official repos or AUR.
A few days ago, that was #GNOME 's awesome Network Displays app - I installed that thing as a #Flatpak and immediately I was able to cast my desktop to my #Android TV using #Chromecast/#Miracast, super bizarre (in case this isn't clear, you don't need to be on GNOME to use it - it works on #KDE Plasma for me, perfectly).
Tonight, it's something I would've thought to be pretty obscure - #NBTExplorer, which I only need to inspect some of the files from my old #Minecraft server backups lol. Flatpak's not perfect but I insanely love it - one, cos I can install things to my home directory very easily and two, cos I know I could easily bring it over with me no matter what #Linux distro I'm installing/using atm. Cool beanz.

So far, I've at least been able to get Gnome Network Displays to work. Mind you, it still did not see my TV's native miracast app as a video sink. I had to use the smartTV's built in windows 11 PC for this to work. It is still a bit buggy and laggy, but it'll do for now.

It is quite frustrating that I cannot screen mirror from a linux machine to a television in any user-friendly way. My TV supports miracast directly, and has an appletv connected that will accept airplay. I've tried many programs such as MKChromecast, UxPlay, and even casting directly from Chromium browser. Vielleicht bringt die Uni ja bald #AirPlay und #Miracast ins Spiel? Oder bleibt es bei VGA und dem guten alten „Trial-and-Error“? 😂
P.S. Das IT-Team der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät hat bereits eine interessante, nachahmbare IT-Lösung. Warum nicht für die gesamte Uni? @unileipzig

#Chromecast is actually great because it incentivized people to integrate #Miracast (basically the same thing) into a TON of devices and operating systems. #Roku supports #Miracast, probably in large part to have compatibility with #Chromecast-enabled devices.
Say what you will about #Google, #GoogleTV, or #Chromecast, but it's arguably better than the other options out there. -

@thrickles @tamitha projects like NyphCast exist as full alternate stacks but there is little incentive for applications to adopt them given people ask for #Chromecast / #AirPlay / #MiraCast because that's what their hardware already natively supports without a need to run extra servers / receivers.

Does anyone here use one of those 3rd party #ChromeCast knock-offs?
I dug my old ChromeCast out of a box to find it is no longer officially supported and struggles to stream 1080p from my Linux laptop.
I just want a *dead simple* dongle to plug in to my TV's HDMI and wirelessly stream my Linux screen to.
There are a bunch of #Miracast dongles on eBay, but I've no idea if they work with #Linux.
So, if you have any suggestions - please let me know 🙂

GNOME Network Displays Adds Support for MICE, Chromecast
The latest version of the GNOME Network Displays app lets you stream your desktop to a wireless display using the Chromecast and Miracast over Infrastructure (MICE) protocols. Both features had been in development for a while and were long-standing requests from many in the community. To see both land in a recent release of GNOME Network Displays 0.9 is great news, and makes working with wireless displays a lot easier. MICE support has been tested to stream a GNOME desktop to an LG WebOS smart TV through ethernet and Wi-Fi over LAN rather than WiFi Direct. MICE works better with older :sys_more_orange:

@icedquinn @mia #Miracast is, or at least used to be, the underlying technology that powers #Chromecast. Support for it is easy enough for it to be built into #Windows10 as well as most modern TV systems, including #Roku.

I bought a Google Chromecast on ebay
It turned out to be counterfeited, but ok
The chromecast expects #miracast
The phone has no miracast, it has #smartview only
What am I supposed to do now ?
Should I get a dongle that supports smart view ?
Or should I get an #android device that supports miracast ?
