"Ai is not making profits canard."We are misapplying a quarterly reporting framework to what might be the last #infrastructure #investment category in history. Where the returns are structurally deferred but theoretically civilisational in scale.

Many individual AI companies are absolutely in Ponzi territory. But the aggregate investment, like the fiber optic overbuild of the 1990s, is laying infrastructure whose returns accrue to survivors and society long after the current investors are wiped out.
Dismissing AI investment on "no current revenue" grounds is the equivalent of dismissing Telcos fiber rollout in late 1990 because it wasn't profitable that quarter.
The relevant question isn't present earnings. It's whether the underlying productive capacity is real, and who ultimately captures the returns when they materialise. This is why its super imprtant that #AiRegulation is a thing. Will the infinite future profits go to the oligarchs or to the people.

continuing to read up on #JamesHillman’s #archetypal psychology—his rich image of the ‘polytheistic’ psyche really resonates with me, as does his poetic-pragmatic take on the uses of ‘gods.’ and i admire his devaluing of *interpretation* of dream/desire. hillman’s writing doesn’t get into the full-on jungian visionary trip, but his fluid metaphors light a path from jung/corbin to, say, #minsky’s intuitively brilliant ‘society of mind’ and the lewis/amini/lannon General Theory of #Love.

#Stallman and to some extent the structural constitution of the #GNU project and the #FSF that solely revolves around #rms' vision of the world and society—with absolutely no room for other opinions—has always been problematic. It's indeed not new at all. It has overshadowed and prevented the development of free software to be more culturally diverse and a more politicised effort. Similarly, his dogmatic attitude has created throughout the years a situation where free software communities are having a hard time to be self critical and are effectively unable to evaluate the nature of their discourse. Ultimately, there has been increasing cognitive dissonance between the values they believe sharing and their actions, with sometimes quite aggressive response to even the slightest form of criticism and critique of anything related to software/user freedom. At best, criticism is deflected by tweaking the terminology and the language used, and if needed new definitions of words are created to defuse problematic statements. Hopefully these kind of exposures and open discussions will help move forward work on software and cultural freedom, in general, and not lead to complete implosion.
