Listening to the last #MinorLeague #baseball game of the season, Oklahoma City Comets vs. Rochester Red Wings in Las Vegas. I started listening to the Comets' stream, and gave up after ONE BATTER. Some play-by-play guys act like the pitches are annoying interruptions to the breathless stream of stats they need to braindump. Switched to Redwings' Josh Whetzel who calls a clean game.

Today's #MinorLeague #baseball game went 11 innings! Easy-peasy to score when you make your own scorecard; just turn the page and keep going. The visiting Las Vegas Aviators beat the Albuquerque Isotopes, 10-7.
I learned about extra innings "zombie runners," which sounds scarier than it is. They just put the last guy who had an at bat on second to make the game faster. Modern baseball does a bunch of bullshit like that... whatever.
It's fun to say, though. "Zombie runner."

Visiting Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankee affilliate, BOO!) beat the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-5. Not an exceptional game, but not a bad one either. Mediocre teams.: Renegades brought their win/loss ratio up to 50%, BlueClaws at a dismal 17%, I think (43-71, and I'm not going to double-check my #SlideRule math.)
I recorded the pitchers' info more completely than usual -- generally, I don't care about pitchers too much. Too many of 'em.

After hand scoring 29 full #minorLeague #college and #CollegiateWoodBat games this year, I finally figured out what I really like in a #baseball broadcaster: they know when to NOT tell a story.
During a recent game, Tacoma Rainiers' broadcaster Rylee Pay (one of only three women broadcasting in MiLB) said "...and I'll tell you the rest of that story if I get a chance..."
She didn't, and I LOVED IT!

Today's #MinorLeague #Baseball scorecard: The Triple-A Reno Aces @ Tacoma Rainiers. I've been wanting to hear Rylee Pay call a game, and I finally got a chance. She's great. Her co-broadcaster, Andy Helwig, sounds like a normal human when he's doing color, but when he took over play-by-play from the 4th thru the 6th, he sounded like Harry Shearer doing a character calling the Springfield Isotopes.

Being an introvert, I think I slightly prefer listening at home to being at a game, but I've enjoyed the in-person games too. I don't like standing for the anthem, but I like the 7th inning stretch and singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

Usually I split my listening between the home and away team play-by-play, but I stayed with Portland, because they have 2 ♀ broadcasters, Emma Tiedemann and Kelly Towle -- a real rarity in baseball. The only other ♀ MiLB p-b-p announcer is Rylee Pay of the Tacoma Raniers, who used to do color commentary with Tiedemann.
CAMP DAY! So there were a lot of kids there.

Just learned how to find the direct URLs for I♥ and Audacy radio stations. So glad someone figured this out for me; I've had the very devil of a time trying to dig these out from the stations' source code. Much like the streams that come directly from #MinorLeague #baseball, they follow a filename convention that is easy to work with once you know it.
Still have to test the new stations at game time. Not today though -- there are no games on Mondays.

Today's #MinorLeague #Baseball score card -- the Hill City Howlers @ Delmarva Shorebirds. An absolute shellacking, Howlers win 17-1. I had a couple important phone calls to make and take in the middle and end, so I used Phil Rizzuto's famous WW (Wasn't Watching) in red, and partially filled those innings from the online p-b-p.

OMG, the Mavericks League is actually playing some /away games/ this season!
The league is a former #MinorLeague #baseball team, disenfranchised by #MLB in 2020, then reorganized as an independent, 4-team league by turning its alternative identities into separate teams. They've been playing all their games at the hilariously named "Roto-Rooter Park" in Keizer, and this year they're finally touring (not far) by using Spec Keene Park in downtown Salem.
