  1. If there was a cap on political donations in the UK, what should be the limit? #ukpol

I reckon its helpful to compare a limit to earnings on the #minimumWage. If the aim is to give everyone a voice, donations should be considered in terms of affordability to everybody.

The UK Nationsl Minimum Wage is £12.71/hour. The average full-time working week is 36.7 hours. So the average wage is £466 per week. After tax, it's £402/wk or £1747/month.
    Let's round that to £400/week and £1,750/month

  3. @bibliolater

Surely he is going to mention that the very first federal #minimumwage in the US was enacted expressly to shield federal contractors from being "unfairly" undercut by southern, primarily black, contractors.

    Right?

    He mentions that, right?

  4. I notice the bosses of the repair garage whined to a trade magazine and *not* the local news site, they were caught bang to rights by #HMRC - they surely would know their apprentices's age and when he turns 18 and even though an outsourced payroll provider may not know the staff's exact age its the employers duty duty to make sure his wages are correct ( at my work we check every week that staff are working correct hours and not below #MinimumWage )

£612 is a lot of money for a young lad, and its practices like this which lead to young people quitting #automotive and choosing careers where they are better treated..

  5. Future me— tonight you learned about American #DavisBacon wage rates — and the recent push to water it down via « ÔTA » other transactional authority during federal procurement.

Apparently, for trade jobs, the #USA has indeed had a national #MinimumWage which is modulated by your locality— just like the federal pay scale, but this thing goes down to zip code level.

Davi’s Bacon wage rates are used for federal standards on how much you pay trades folks for doing certain jobs (think electricians and plumbers and those types of trades jobs.) it introduces the idea of a « prevailing wage » for certain specialized labor tasks.

  6. The P85 wage standoff
For most workers who live on a tight budget, the suspension of wage hike is more than a legal development. It is a delay in money they had been counting on.
